Isn't that still fairly new? Literally the only time remember hearing about it was when it was apparently considered a big deal that that guy who stood up for streamers' right to cheat at Fortnite announced he was leaving Twitch for it.

yeah, that was like 6-7 months ago. And since the big names didn't want to go to facebook, they got the huge payday and got bought out of their contracts with mixer, so they just made bank to stream for 5 people for 6 months.

Ninja and Shroud just made out like bandits. Mixer bought out their contracts, they made 30m and 10m, respectively, and now they'll probably go back to Twitch.

Sucks for the small creators, though

Business is funny like this.... you'll invest a whole bunch of resources into a project, and then one day management decides "k, this isn't working, end the whole thing"

Maybe we should have expected this in context of that one infographic recently about how up twitch, facebook, and youtube are on live stream views over prior year but mixer somehow managed to be exactly flat?

I dont know, I kind of assume it will have a twitch app but maybe theyll make FB gaming more prominent in menus? I think twitch is available on Xbone already even though there was a dedicated Mixer tab on the menu.

The ratio of streamers to viewers on Mixer was 1:1.2

On Twitch it's 1:25-27.

The platform wasn't sustainable.

Is that a thing that happened? I remember hearing about Ninja trying to defend getting overly mad about about losing matches and it was ridiculous, but maybe you're talking about someone else.

The really big streamers that left Twitch definitely did it for money, though.

no yea Ninja also did that, with his base argument being that if you're a popular streamer you shouldn't get as badly punished as someone who is an average joe

This is why you stream multiplayer games with a delay. Some games you can get away with it but in others, and especially those with real money on the line, it's a necessity.

They do typically use a delay when there's money on the line but most streamers like to be able to interact with chat. It's a double edged sword because most viewers are turned off by a long delay but it's the only way to play most of these online games and not be miserable.

Streaming in general seems like a pretty miserable job sometimes but it's hard to complain with the money some of them make.

Yeah, it had nothing to do with streamsniping. Another streamer got banned from Fortnite for using aimbots and Ninja went on a rant how it was unfair to treat content creators like normal "pieces of shit" who have no followers.

I kid you not.

Theres a difference between a content creator who has millions of subscribers, who then gets banned from what makes him money, and some kid who is just a piece of **** who has zero followers, zero money from gaming and hacks.

I don't agree with what he's saying but I can at least see where he's coming from. The kid got a lifetime ban, I think, for using aimbots and he was making a lot money out of Fortnite. Streamers or content creators shouldn't get special treatment but it's also rough to kill someone's source of income because he made a mistake.

But I also think the kid was given a few chances and still kept using aimbots/hacks so I don't know. It would maybe be a little different if Fortnite didn't actively promote content creators and streamers in the game with creator codes and even things like Ninja skins. Fortnite is aware that people use it as a source of income but that doesn't mean they can't issue lifetime bans.

It's a shame that Ninja became the posterboy for streamers because he comes off like such an entitled brat sometimes. Should have been someone more wholesome like TimTheTatman

Wow, I'd never heard of that. This just took me from being pretty much neutral on Ninja all these years to strongly disliking him.

Content creators using cheats is even worse than a normal person using them since it normalizes the behavior and makes even more people think its okay to do.

Someone recently in Tarkov just recently got outed for cheating by a somewhat friend who had access to his discord and saw him and his friends all blatantly talking about it. So the dudes friends all started harassing the whistleblower (publicly, strangely?) for outing him and that's not a big deal if a streamer does it. How does en entire group of people believe this shit? It's just fucked up.

The way I read the comment from ninja, I got the feeling he was more referring to the fact that you're cutting off their income, but I can def read it as more of a "we're more important, so we deserve more leniency" type of comment. Not to mention the fact that if the guy had in fact had multiple warnings before being banned then there's really no excuse and he deserved every bit of it.

Even in the tone of "cutting off their income," they're making money off of playing a game. Just because they've found a way to make money off of it doesn't mean the rules shouldn't apply to them. Cheating makes the game less fun for other players, so to go "Well yeah but I'm cheating to make money so I should get a pass" seems incredibly silly and selfish.

For context he made a Youtube video that was basically like "lol look at how broken aimhax are" and he used a second account. In the video he told people not to use the cheats because they'll get banned but he thought he was safe by using a second account.

Seems I was wrong about him being a repeat offender but yeah a lifetime ban seems like a harsh punishment for a 17 year old making a mistake like that. I agree that streamers shouldn't have special treatment and that's what you get for breaking the rules though.

A one year ban would have been harsh enough to send the message and also not ruin this kid's financial career but then you'd also have to change your policy to give everyone else a 1 year ban when they use cheats which isn't worth it.

I just don't really feel sorry for him at all since I don't really consider it a "mistake."

He knew it was wrong and you'd get banned for it, which is why he tried to get around it by making a second account. The fact he specifically did it to make money makes it even worse, not better.

But he DOESN'T call the content creators "pieces of shit" for cheating. So what's the difference? To him, it's the following. If you have a following, you're doing it for "content" and should get a pass. If you don't, you're just a cheating piece of shit.

He's defending one guy for cheating just because he has a following while calling other people "pieces of shit" for cheating.
