Yes, I can't say this season wasn't pretty great!

I'm dissappinted I was wrong about Higurashi still being Summer (I thought Summer WAS the delay, unless it got delayed twice), but next season is looking very strong, took.

The Hunter x Hunter rewatch is still trucking, the end is in sight.

Just finished it. Was pretty good, but not amazing? I liked the first few episodes most I think. The comedy usually worked pretty well, but the "keep it a secret from Hime" jokes definitely got old...

What's quality from this season? Need to figure out what to watch.

Yeah they got me with the 1-2 punch. Oh well I'm already 2 episodes through Higurashi proper, not gonna slow down just because the deadline is gone lol.

The tops from this season for me are Villainess, Tower of God, Kaguya, Glepnir, Wave and Yesterday.

Fruits Basket, Kaguya, Kakushigoto, and Wave are all great. I'm also laughing a lot at Bakarina/HameFura.

From what I'm reading, it was originally planned to be 18 episodes and was cut down to 12, with all 7 of the final episodes of content being squished into episode 12.

Need to get around to watching the last 2 eps of MHA S4 still. The school festival arc was pretty decent. Mostly just liked it for the Jiro and Mina focus. Probably gonna be a while before either gets that kind of screen time again :(

So what we got coming up now that the dust has settled on cancelations.

Fire Force S2 - haven't finished the first yet because the second OP sucked, so I don't know when I'll get to this. Always tough to follow a show when I've already read the manga unless I reaaaally love it, and there was some weird direction here. Those first few episodes were visually stunning, though. For some reason I feel like this is gonna be one of those "second season has a lower budget than the first" situations, but there's no real basis for that as far as I'm aware. Just a hunch.

God of High School - haven't checked this out in the app yet, but the hype from Webtoon fans is almost Tower of God level and that worked out great, so I guess fingers crossed? Without the interest of the webtoon origin this wouldn't be on my radar though, so not super excited.

Re:Zero - oh geeze I wonder. That most recent PV is pretty spoilery, huh? Maybe it only seems like that knowing the context.

Deca Dence - NUT STUDIO IS BACK. I'm not the biggest Tanya fan, but I really liked the look and was confused as to why the studio just vanished off the face of the earth. With Tachikawa from Mob and Death Parade helming and how rad the PV is, easily my most anticipated bin sequel of the season.

SNAFU 3 - this will probably be good and I will not like it.

Gibiate - nothing to say but l-a-unch BOX is a very good studio name.

That's...a bit bare bones, but as always I expect at least one show not on my radar to surprise me.

God of High School if I recall has people hyped because it has like a bunch of super good fight animators on board or something. I think I remember seeing a clip of a fight scene from it and it looked pretty impressive

Episode 11 of Kaguya literally didn't have a single joke in it's entire run and it's still far and away the best episode in either season.

I'm glad I got a little behind because I got to experience it back to back with the riot that was 10.

So do LNs usually get a complete edition or is the only hope for most of them buying the individual volumes? Been thinking of buying some Konosuba LNs, but dunno if I should wait and see or what. Literally never bought an LN so I dont really know how they operate release wise.

I don't think I've ever seen an LN omnibus, at least not in the modern industry. Even my Monogatari collection is individual volumes just in a fancy box.

Actually scratch that, Boogiepop Phantom just release 2 omnibus volumes...but that's really old, so the modern comment still stands.

I think there was a yuri LN series that was getting a big collection release soon?

There was a limited edition one for Spice and Wolf 1-17, and they released two Boogiepop omnibus volumes to cover 1-6 (since they licensed and translated those volumes a while back, but only released 4 of them since there wasn't a market at the time). Crest of the Stars got a hardcover of volumes 1-3, and Full Metal Panic 1-3 (and I guess there's going to be another one for both series eventually, I assume Banner of the Stars 1-3 and another for FMP 4-6). Also there's going to be a limited edition set for Invaders of the Rokujima 1-30 but it's probably too late to try to get a hold of one at this point.

You're going to have to buy individual volumes, which kinda sucks since they're pretty expensive for being relatively short in length and not being edited properly. I don't really feel it's too worth it to buy physical releases, unless they're on sale at rightstuf or they've got a buy 2 get 1 free sale at the bookstore in town and I can get other discounts on top of that.

(edit: I forgot that there's a box set for the monogatari season 1 and 2 novels)

Does anyone have some recommendations for shows that are similar to Kaguya-sama (which I marathonned this past weekend and thought was absolutely fantastic!!)?

I say "similar" but I'm open to pretty much anything in the romance / slice of life / short skit genre regardless of themes.

I liked School Rumble a lot, though it took some time to come into its own I think.

Definitely further towards the comedy side of things than Kaguya though.

I think Sakamoto gets old fast, but it's not bad and the other 2 here are grade A+++ recommendations.

Also if you want pure comedy I think Asobi Asobase is one of the best anime in recent years.

Obviously things could change, but Chainsaw Man is currently the only series I've ever read were I think every single chapter from 1 on has been fantastic.

I don't think it's, like, at the very end, but probably not too far off. I doubt it reaches 100 chapters.
