I knew nothing about the guy in real life. but I really liked his character on the show. this sucks. apparently he no longer is like his tweets and they were almost a decade ago. but CW is very harsh on this kind of thing

only one show so far in the entire arrowverse has ended. and thats the one that started it all, Arrow. and it was on like season 8 I think. Flash is still good for a few more years at least

If those kind of comments can be considered racist or misogynistic then literlly everything out of Eddie Murphy's mouth for the first ten years of his career would have to be one or the other, yet he's considered funny for his comments. And I agree he's always been very funny. Just the tone of the comments leads me to believe they were taken out of context.

Even if they weren't out of context, people change. We've all said shit in the distant past, especially when really young, that could be taken the same way as this was. I get the whole racist/woman hater bad thing. I've been on the side of inclusion in all things all of my life (thanks dad for doing it right). This sort of bullshit just takes it to a purely evil level. I'd almost guaranty every player in every major sport has been guilty of making the same comments or ones very similar. Sad world we live in that comments from decades ago are used to judge our current selves.

All we're teaching people is to not bother to stop being a shithead, cause there's a decent chance even if they do grow as a person they're going to be treated like they're still being a shithead.

That's pretty unfair, those tweets were made before he even joined the cast. If his actions of today don't reflect his past behavior, he doesn't deserve being fired over this. It's kind of like firing your employee because his criminal background has suddenly become the subject of conversations on social media, even though said crimes were committed before employment and were publicly known. Heck, I've said pretty racist and homophobic stuff in the early 00s when I was still a kid. I compared another student's black skin to chocolate as a joke in elementary school when I was 11, and I said I hated gays out loud in class (the entire class heard) when I was 13. The first was due to me not having much experience with black people at the time (I don't live in the US and black people are extremely rare), and the second was because I was at an age when my sexuality was developing and a group of older male students were sexually harassing me (they didn't touch me, they only abused me verbally).

A few years later and I was already a strong opponent to racism and homophobia. My personality wasn't fully developed yet, so holding me responsible for these stupid comments now would be absurd. If I hadn't changed, then yeah you could use them against me, but that isn't the case. The only reason why they fired him is because of the current protests, they want to show the world that they're distancing themselves from the problem. They're making a stance against racism and police brutality. They wouldn't have made such a big deal out of it if it wasn't for that. They fear public outrage, so if fans turn the problem around by showing CW that their decision causes more backlash than otherwise, they're going to backtrack and hire him again.

I agree with your sentiment. I can't understand not being able to tell the difference from my point of view of being a lifelong geek. but I guess some people pay no attention to that stuff and to them it's all the same shit.

I feel like theres probably a good sized overlap between CW viewers and the tumblr-esque crowd so something like this doesnt really surprise me

its still dumb though, a lot of decent people in the world used to be total shitbags

I was just reading those tweets that the Elongated Man actor made that got him fired and they are JOKES. Granted, Jokes that a 12 year old trying to be a funny edgelord would tell, but they are JOKES nonetheless. The only thing he should be guilty of is bad comedy, but anyone with a sense of humor will see that they are jokes that aren't meant to be taken seriously. If they are going to go after him for those jokes, then every stand-up comedian who tells edgy jokes better delete their Twitter right now.

I just find it ironic that the show he was fired from often deals with the morality of killing super villains or trying to reform them somehow. but in real life, the same show can't try to redeem this actor and just kicks him out. we should want to redeem people as a society not do punitive revenge punishments. wanting to just punish punish punish is why our country can be so shitty sometimes
