Nah, there are a lot of cards around the same power level as this. The cards that get banned tend to make for completely degenerate, unfun play that warps the metagame to the point where you basically either play them or you lose. It is a nice card though, especially with how strong green has already been for several sets.

card's an absolute monster in limited, but I doubt it'll get more than fringe play in Standard, Pioneer and Commander. Will be a kitchen table all-star, though.

nope. it does nothing banworthy.

recent banned cards have either cheated on mana, created unstoppable card advantage, or were generally oppressive

this is none of those

it is a 5 drop that literally does nothing when it is played and in 2020 magic, that isn't good enough unless it is coming down very early or is VERY above rate (such as Rotting Regisaur)

i'm not really sure, it was at one point i think played but i avoid standard

in gladiator its pretty cool and sometimes shows up in canadian highlander and i've seen some mono-black decks run it in legacy

they're coming off as the mtg equivalent to pokemon's genwunners to me. I've been trying to come up with a clever nickname, but the best I've hit on so far has an unfortunate misinterpretation that kills it before it starts.

The issue is when there is so much value generated off of ETBs and initial activations of planeswalkers even good removal still has you playing at a disadvantage a lot.

Uro is just impossible to remove profitability

progenitus is just such a funny card, I don't even care how poorly games go if sometimes I get to play a card with protection from everything. the entire deck was just ways to ramp it out and ways to boost power by 1 so you can kill in 2 hits instead of 3

My favorite (not best) EDH deck ran Progenitus as the general, and I ran 0 single-color cards in that deck. All artifacts in the deck either had more than one color of mana symbol on them somewhere or were capable of generating any color mana/fetching any color land. All of the lands were multi-color excepting 1 of each basic.

Sadly, that deck walked off at some point. Probably because it had all of the original duals, and all of the shocklands, and all of the (good) fetchlands.

pw are not inherently a problem, not even at 3 cmc

the issue is making them unstoppable value engines for such a low investment

plenty of good not busted 3 mana walkers exist, wotc just can't help themselves when making busted shit now

I missed cube last time they did it. Always wanted to put one together myself but I have like 3 friends that play magic and they aren't really into draft. We did buy a booster box and draft ... Core set 14... I think.

I drafted Ikoria a bunch the month it was released but not as much recently. The cube sealed sucked when they had it last (no human drafts at the time) but I'd expect it to get better as more cards are added.

Wasnt progenitus weak as shit? Because i think its protection only activates when its in play so you could literally counterspell it. I only ever played white decks, blue decks, or blue/red decks so i always had a way to deal with it. Meanwhile the people i played against had to play some trash 5 colour deck just to run progenitus and wernt impressed when i just counterspell

Well I mean you could counter it, but it would just return to the deck. Thats also why I would prefer to summon it via Elvish Piper or Summoning Trap; so it either cant be countered, or if there is a counter, the cost is much less.

Progenitus wasn't really put in decks to be cast though.

I totally lost interest in standard come Ikoria, mainly due to the companion controversy.

Doesn't help that all my friends are modern players, but they've lost interest in modern since the quarantine as they all favor paper over online. We're all EDH guys and gals now.

Which I don't mind, because anything I disliked in standard would probably be magnified in modern. I'd probably just make the cheapest modern mono red deck available just to have something to play in card shops with them, but with the quarantine and all...
