please, it's just the same cycle again and again, maybe the ps5 is ahead for a bit but the pc will overtake it again before long and then stay ahead until the next console comes out and the cycle repeats.

I doubt the PS5 can run 72 copies of World of Warcraft concurrently (pets my botfarm)

Personally I'm thinking of going crazy with a $400 CPU so I can emulate Skate 3 and run virtual machines.

Maybe slightly for a year or two but everyone needs a computer anyway so it's always been a moot point. Consoles are just specially made cheap computers. They can't ever be better than a computer because they are a computer that don't get their standards upgraded as often.

Even IF PS5 was some sort of magic superbox powered by space wizardry and was somehow better than PC could possibly be, why would we be afraid of it? The switch is objectively the weakest console and it does fine.

I'm on PC because it's literally the only option for true gamers and the PS5 terrifies me. I know when PS5 releases Sony will detonate a uniquely designed EMP device which will kill all gaming PCs and force us into the console market

Not really. I know many people who are doing fine without a computer. It's good to have, but not needed. Not a conventional one, anyway...

Uh, no. You need hardware greater than the original system to emulate something. It's not as simple as just loading up the playstation OS on a computer. A PS5 won't be able to emulate an xbox 1 any better than a PC will.

This is what I was referring to. This has literally nothing to do with how efficient PC or consoles are, just that they have different architecture. My point being that consoles aren't any better at emulating other consoles than PC is because it's not about raw processing strength or efficiency, it's about similarity.

Then why bring up emulation at all? You used PC's poor ability to emulate modern consoles as some sort of downside against how efficient PC is. It's only reasonable to compare it to the thing you are saying is more efficient.

I haven't really seen that, tbh. While a lot of games are F2P, that doesn't make them P2W. I've played many F2P games that are co-op, so people just work together against the game. And a lot of the games with Gacha elements son't require money to actually win. In the end, people who pay could get ore chances to get good units. But even still, it's just a chance. Most people playing the gachas I do just save the currency they win, and can usually pull what they want, anyway. No whaling required. A lot of games are getting better at it.But it just depends on what games you find fun. Everyone isn't going to find every game fun, anyway...

Im a console guy and I dont think this is true at all.

IF the PS5 outperforms high end PCs at launch, that wont last long and as the generation progresses, PCs that can outclass the PS5 will get cheaper and cheaper to buy or build. Its the same cycle weve seen for years.

Additionally, the entry cost of going from nothing to a PC on par with a brand new console may be high but for years you end up saving on games (games are generally way cheaper on PC not to mention the insane sales you guys get) and when its time to upgrade again you might only need to replace a part or two which keeps cost over the course of a generation or two very reasonable.

There are pros and cons to both, I dont know why we have to do this every time a new console is about to drop.

Because the nature of emulation means you need stronger hardware, not equivalent hardware. Even if it was 100% efficiently emulating the game, your computer would still need to run it's normal OS at the same time meaning it will always be at a performance deficit however the next point is the real issue.

Nearly isn't the same and as far as I'm aware, there is no complete xbox one emulator period so the software is a bigger issue than hardware. Even PS2 emulation is still somewhat buggy and people have been refining that for a long time and of course the PS2's hardware is absolute garbage compared to modern stuff. Emulation isn't as simple as just running software on a new machine, you need to come up with ways to translate the code to something your system can use and that generally causes a performance loss. As emulation software gets better, you usually see massive performance improvements. Until an emulator is actually flawless it's more an indication of how well the emulation software is made as opposed to anything to do with hardware.

Emulation power is not an effective means to measure somethings power.

It'd make a lot more sense to look at multiplatform titles run on comparable PCs but even that runs into software problems because one is likely to be better made than the other. Theres no lack of badly made ports out there.
