People like to hang their hate hat on the twist but that was really a small issue. My biggest problem with it is the crazy tone roller coaster. It tries to be a super serious movie with Tony dealing with PTSD, terrorists, and exploding people and then you randomly have scenes with Happy being some slapstick jackass. Other than that it's got some great action and some good humor, but it just doesn't all come together. I love Shane Black but it was a pretty weak Shane Black movie.

This entirely.

I rewatched it like two weeks ago, I watched all of the Iron Man movies. 3 is only held back by probably the weakest villain in the entire MCU, but for the most part it was a solid watch. I put 2 and 3 on the same tier, 7/10 movies compared to the first one being a 9.

I think the first two Thor movies were among the weakest.

I'll never understand the hate for the second movie. It's only real sin is just being more of the same which is understandable because it was thrown together in, like, a year because Iron Man was such a surprise hit. It's still super solid, especially compared to the rest of Phase 1.

The villain was real weak tbh. Even by MCU standards. IM3 is one of the worst MCU movies, but I think that's more a message to how consistently decent the MCU movies have been rather than a slight on IM3.

But that scene where the plane explodes and Iron Man has to save everyone "Barrel of Monkeys" style was really cool.

I fucks with 2.

Justin Hammer is awesome. Mickey Rourke has his moments. RDJ is great as always. Introduces Black Widow. Theres a lot to like in it and far better than the internet would have you believe.

There are things I like and don't like, and find odd.

I didn't like Extremis-Pepper and I cringe almost everytime I happen to see that scene.

Also it was just very weird how Tony was talking to that kid. The tone of their scenes was confusing. In one second, the kid is showing how he's alone and his father abandoned him, and Tony calls him a "pussy" and just openly curses at him and taunts him. It's such a strange interaction.

I did like Rhodey more in this movie than in 2, and this scene always cracks me up:

Theres nothing weird about this scene at all. Its perfectly in line with Tonys character. Hes not trying to be the kids role model, hes not at the stage of his life where hes comfortable with children so he treats him as he would anyone else. And he knows the kid can take it, hes handling himself fine after his dad abandoned him. Tonys got his own laundry list of daddy issues but again, that doesnt mean hes well adjusted. You can tell he still has a respect for him and his mechanical aptitude. I love their scenes, and it was awesome to see the kid all grown up at the end of Endgame. Even though I had no idea who that was in the theatre at the time. I dont think anyone did. They should have gave him his own scene.

I think it's more entertaining to watch than Thor 1. But I have a very simple standard for superhero movies where if I'm watching a superhero movie I'd like interesting superhero stuff to happen, which Thor 2 has more of than Thor 1. I know that Thor losing his power is kind of the point but "haha he speaks silly and eats so much food what's with this guy" for 45 minutes isn't my idea of a superhero movie.

On the other hand, when I first watched Thor 2 it was after marathonning all the Marvel movies that came before it and it's so so jarring seeing Thor 2 after Avengers 1. Avengers obviously had an enormously larger budget and it shows with the insanely elaborate fight scenes and cinematography work. So imagine watching that and then right afterward seeing whatever this is:

The guy used a frame-merger or something. You can make lower fps clips into 60 with some kind of tech. Most of the time it doesn't turn out that good though. It looks horrible on anime, for example.

All those movies are above average. Avengers, Captain America, Thor etc. Theyre all worth watching, one of the better series among all movies.

Compare them to the way the X Men movies were done. Jumping around timelines, different actors, random shit. All the MCU movies or whatever play off each other, the crossovers are interesting, and then the way it comes together with the Avengers movies. MCU much better. If you dont like those movies i think you just hate fun tbh. Not saying they are all great or perfect.

I rate the Iron Man movies 3 > 1 > 2 myself, but I also acknowledge that 1 is the better made movie. I just watch comic book movies for amusing and visually impressive comic book shit, which three definitely has more of. And I really enjoy seeing all of the different suits Tony had for various purposes during the house party.

For all we knew at the time, the Tesseract was just some artifact found on Earth that was magic. Then we learned more about it's capabilities in Avengers 1. But Dark World was the first movie to use the phrase "Infinity Stones" and declare how dangerously powerful they were, as Asgard didn't want to have two of them in one place.

Yes TDW is directly setting up the Infinity War but give TFA some credit. Just because we didnt know what the tesseract was doesnt mean the writers didnt (which, speaking of are Markus and Mcfeely, the guys who also did TDW, every Captain America movie and Infinity War / Endgame). The First Avenger sets up later movies beautifully.
