It's not official or even close yet, and I highly doubt it will happen with the way the trump administration is handling things. It doesn't make sense for the president to be pushing for things going back to normal, while giving $2000 a month to people to stay at home.

His name on the check was obviously not enough.

The White House
Washington

Your economic impact payment has arrived.

My fellow American"

Our great country is experiencing an unprecedented public health and economic challenge as a result of the global corono virus pandemic. Our top priority is your health and safety. As we wage total war on this invisible enemy, we are also working around the clock to protect hardworking Americans like you from the consequences of the economic shutdown. We arr fully committed to ensuring that you and your family have the support you need to get through this time.

On March 27, 2020 Congress passed with overwhelming bipartisan support the Coronavirus And Relief, and Economic Security ACt (CARES Act) which I personally signed into law. I want to thank the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate for working so quickly with my Administration to fast-track this $2.2 Trillion in much needed economic relief to the American people.

This includes fast and direct economic assistance to you.

I am pleased to notify you that as provided by the CARES Act you are receiving an Economic Impact Payment of $1,200.00 by check debit card. We hope this payment provides meaningful support to you during this period.

Every citizen should take tremendous pride in the selflessness, courage and compassion of our people. America's drive, determination, innovation and sheer willpower have conquered every previous challenge-- and they will conquer this too. Just aa we have before, America will triumph yet again-- and rise to new heights of greatness.

We will do it together, as one nation, stronger than ever before.

President Donald J. Trump

I thought the $1,200 was plenty. $2k when things are looking better seems like a little overkill.

seeing as how everyone is throwing bitch fits and pushing to get states re-opened, combined with misleading and underreporting of cases from the white house, combined with the just shit administration

wave 2 is going to hit, and it's going to hit hard.

That was literally a month ago, and most bills are monthly. Edit: Rereading it seems you might mean we were fine with 1200 monthly instead of 2000 monthly, rather than the single 1200. If that's the case then disregard.

Can't put it off forever. The point of quarantine was to flatten the curve, not keep people locked down until cases reach zero or a cure is found.

Well, bills are normally monthly. Also, depending on where you live, $1200 might not be enough for everyone... Some places cost more to live in.

Way to be a pessimist lol. There is definitely going to be a wave 2 but I feel optimistic because we are better educated now and should be able to monitor and lockdown hot spots when and if they arrive. Plus the fact they are finding evidence that the coronavirus was already in places like California and Florida back in January a whole two months before any type of quarantine procedures were implemented.

Not everything has to be doom and gloom. Its a very tough situation out there and you are going to have stupid people who are going to say and do stupid things on both sides, but as long as the majority stays cautious, has good personal hygiene, and stays up to date on what is going on, we got this.

except that it's been proved time and time again that people are stupid.

as soon as their state reopens, and towns reopen, people are going to be cautious at first, and then become lax fairly soon, because in their eyes, everything is fine. things go back to normal, despite officials saying otherwise, and, then the wave hits.

this is already happening.

Human stupidity is always going to be there and that is why you have to manage for it. Your true wave 2 isnt going to happen till the fall. Right now case numbers are dropping and should begin to plateau through the summer even with a phased reopening. Youre are still going to have people unfortunately infected but this is acceptable because it keeps with the flattening the curve model and doesnt overrun the hospitals. A phased reopening should also lessen the impact of the second wave as well. Having people locked down staying inside all summer will actually make the fall much worse when environmental conditions become more favorable for the virus. A true vaccine is not coming anytime soon and its in the best interest for everyone to continue to protect the elderly and immunocompromised while letting other to begin slowly getting back to normal for the time being.

Pretty sure rent alone is more than that in some places.

My town is a broke PoS town, and a rental can run you anywhere from $350/month for a studio to as high as $800 for a two bedroom.

Depending on availability, one could easily end up spending half (or more) of that on a rental around here alone. No electric, water, food, gas, medical figured in yet.

i'd bet that the $1,200 has been burned through already. not only for rentals (which might've been suspended), and bills, but what about food, clothes, and other necessities ?? I can still remember that it was going to be 2 checks, first in the middle of April and the other was going to be at some point last week. that $1,200 really wasn't enough, and now things are still the same, with slow openings here and there, but quarantine stipulations are still in place (and might be for longer)

it's been said in the past that bad things come in the threes, so here we go: 1) Coronavirus round one 2) Giant Hornets 3) Coronavirus round two (on the horizon)
