Haven't heard anything from them in a while now they've rereleased a batman game?

I've only ever liked their TWD series, couldn't get into any of their other stuff like game of thrones or the first batman.

Are they back with more good shit?

They went under, someone bought what they could and started releasing their games again.

I hope they do a Superman game. He's dying for some video game love and Telltale's style would be easy to overcome the problems with doing a Superman game.

Interesting. I do think the best hope of not making a Superman game bad is to simply not make it an action game. Otherwise there's just no suspension of disbelief that Superman would have any difficulty with those tasks.

They kept paying for IP licenses to make games when most of their games outside of the first Walking Dead weren't actually profitable, people were tired of their now archaic and predictable formula where your choices don't matter, and their game being split into chapter releases also had many people stop caring about the game by the time the next chapter was out, and they went bankrupt and closed. The developers blamed the management for both overworking them to keep making more games that they couldn't handle, and refusing to spend time to create a new game engine causing people to lose interest.

They are returning with A Wolf Among Us 2, but I don't know who purchased the Telltale name to keep using it, or who's running the show and bankrolling the development this time.

I will say this, while I enjoyed A Wolf Among Us 1, if they don't actually make it with a new, more interesting engine, and release the whole game at once instead of in chapters, and make your choices matter more, I don't think they will fare any better this time then they did before.

They went under because they kept paying for new licenses instead of focusing and making quality experiences with the games and people noticed

If this new company churns put some good titles then thats great, Id personally love another Wolf Among Us if its done as well as the first, but theyre unproven so Im not expecting anything much

Ottilie also said that while they plan to stay with the episodic release format established by the original Telltale, that in terms of development, they will see such series as a full game from the development side: "If we do release the game in episodes, all of them will be ready before the first one hits the store."

See, while it's understandable for a small studio to want less risk and for one episode's profits to fund the next, if they refuse to take the risk and release the whole game at once, they are setting themselves up for another failure.

Another big benefit to releasing the whole game at once, is it helps alleviate another one of their big issues, that your choices in the game barely ever matter. Because every episode needs to basically start at the same place regardless of the choices you made, it prevents the story from being able to branch out in different directions.

I think that game that gave the city a health bar instead of supes did it pretty well.

They had some pretty good games, acting like there was just one is a bit laughable. They really weren't innovating enough though and the games started to feel very similar as time went on.

Unless you hate narrative driven games then sure, most of them weren't great then.

An action game would be fine if a competent company did it.

The difficulty in making a Superman game is 2 fold.

  1. Easy to pick up, intuitive, and satisfying flight controls.
  2. How to design a story and game without taking away or limiting Superman's powers that still makes sense, is interesting, and fun to play, which means Superman can't be the god among mortals he is to most of the world and even most of the galaxy.
Because Superman is less of a character you root for because he's physically tested in overcoming his opponents, and more of a symbol of perfection to be admired.

In my opinion, the most interesting Superman stories are the ones where Superman's powers are limited, or lost, however, nobody wants to play a game where you don't have full access to Superman's powers, because that would also feel pointless, why play a Superman game where you can't fully use his powers?
