Ie, tracing allelic frequencies throughout specific populations over time. These populations don't map precisely to what you'd consider race or ancestry. In general they're only loosely related with maybe some more specific overlaps for more isolated communities. Back then it seemed like the GOP opposed during more just because they wanted to make Obama look bad, but seeing them do the same thing during a Republican presidency makes it clear that they really do believe all the crap they say.
