About the appeal of GTA, the way I understand it III was a massive revelation at the time because of how much player freedom it offered in a reasonably believable urban landscape.

So basically the appeal is that you can mess around and do whatever you like. And there's the plot if you like crime fiction like me.

No need to overstate it. That's what GTA is to like 97% of the 100 million+ who bought GTAV

I've been thinking about the Second Chance contest.

Barring anything crazy, its going to take a perfect bracket to win.

There are 4 matches that basically everyone trying to win will agree on. Smash/Odyssey winner over Xeno/P4G and Zelda winning 3 times to reach the final.

In addition, Xenoblade, Witcher, Persona 5, and Dark Souls will be heavy favorites to win their divisions.

We're really only debating RE2/ME2, Smash/Odyssey, and QF/SF matches in the bottom half. Add a couple more if Pokemon beats Nier by a lot or MK8 gets close to Skyrim.

If we ran a Guru contest for this, would we even get 30 unique brackets?

There's no way we should run a Guru for it, but I'd love if the existing Gurus could submit their second chance brackets so we can evaluate where people are deviating in their second chance brackets.

I just feel that every board regular is going to have a similar bracket, and there will be lots of duplicates. Plus a few outliers going for rallies.

No, there's a weeklong break after this round and you can predict the remaining matches.

There should be no second chance brackets IMO, mainly for the reasons stated that they'd be so similar. And I say this as someone who was P4G, Skyrim, and TLOU winning.

Also bracket voting would be even more one-sided.

With 15 matches in the second chance bracket there are 32768 different brackets that can be made. If you make BotW win all four of its matches the permutations drop to 2048. You can drop it to 256 by assuming Witcher 3 > GoW, Skyrim > HGSS/NieR and SSBU/SMO > P4G/Xenoblade. At that rate each one of Luster's alts can make a bracket and he can essentially guarantee that one of them will be perfect.

GTAV needs to cut over 19 votes per update which at this point would 100% require a rally, and there's no reason to suspect sucha big one would happen now.

That's what rallies boil down to at the end of the day. Most of them fail but it only takes 1 to stick to turn a match.

Yeah, any streamer that has the base to swing this match also has a Twitch chat that scrolls so fast, you would never be able to have anything remotely close to a conversation in.

Nobody is going to take the time to click the link, much less vote for GTA, and figure out what to vote for in the Nintendo RPG match.

I mean clearly you wouldn't post it in chat. Any big streamer doesn't even allow links in chat for Terms of Service reasons. The only way to go about it is a donation large enough that the Text To Speech reads it aloud, with something like, "Hey GTAV is currently losing in a match on Gamefaqs".

No link, but that's the only way to get the chat's attention, regardless of whether the streamer acknowledges it or not. Anything else is just doing it wrong!

You do see it happen with other stuff though. The massive streamers sometimes get donations with messages that are clearly advertisements. Getting a message read to 20 thousand people for $5 is a solid deal.

The NoPixel RP streamers and their chats are incredibly into GTAV, that's one community that I could actually see being interested. Of course, again, the streamer is not going to acknowledge it but that doesn't actually matter.

One person here actually has to bite the bullet and donate though, and no one will. They'll just throw and suggestions and wink wink nudge nudge that someone else should.
