They've been saying 18 months for a few months now but thats how long vaccines take. Of course, that discounts the possibility that the virus will have mutated enough to be immune to the vaccines we are currently testing by the time we get out of trials. It's more like fall 2021 MINIMUM.

The exception is if an actual cure is made or MUCH better testing is made. Well, i guess they could also just give up on quarantine and eat the millions of deaths.

They can't. It's a really big fucking problem. Realistically what will probably happen is that we will have a series of 1-2 month long quarantines for the next 18 months. I think thats the hope. Knock down the virus numbers for a few months. Have it spread again for the next few months, then repeat, so hospitals don't get overwhelmed and we stall long enough to test a vaccine.

If shit got REAL bad they'd probably start using untested vaccines on high risk people (voluntarily). Each quarantine should actually be easier than the last because more people will have survived the virus and have immunity so that they can do essential jobs. The first 1 or 2 quarantines would probably be the worst. Supposedly they are rolling out tests that can figure out if you have immunity and those could be very important.

As I mentioned before, it really comes down to if there are different strains already, and if we can contain whatever is causing the extremely high death rate in Italy.

We can handle an average of 1% death rate around the world. It'll suck, and we should take precautions but, yeah, we can move forward with that and eat it if need be (I'm high risk so i'd be one of them eating it so to speak).

But 10% like in Italy, with the world pop well over 7billion that is almost 1 billion deaths, and that, would be insane, we are not set up, nobody is, for that many sick and that many dying. It would have massive implications.

That we can't just push through basically which means doing some kinda quarintine for the long haul until a vaccine is made.

The ...general..soclution there would be as follows (in my mind...nd this is if it's super long term, IE over a year).

20% of high risk people stay inside/seperated for the full duration (and try not to go insane).

40% of the pop at a time is released and works, then alternates with the other 40%, until eventually everyone has had it and is immune at least from this strain.

That could allow all 80% to eventually be up and running.

I honestly thing we should be focusing on rolling out people to work normally and get the virus even now, so that they can be tested, showing they had it and are cleared, and can keep working etc.

If we roll people out every 2 weeks, we could get most of the population back to work in a month.

idk, i'd probably have to look at gameplay video to make up my mind. Btw did you like mgsv, i loved that game.

Heads up, once the curve flattens out and cases start dropping, restrictions will be slowly lifted. The pandemic will technically last a long time, but only because we're going to stretch out the tail end by sending people back to work.
