The video game, not Adrian Andrews' mentor

Some game design YouTubers I follow talked about it a lot, it seems like a pretty respectable game. It's just not my type of game though, so I'm not in a hurry to play it.
If I do end up playing it, I feel like it'll be one of those games that I respect more than I enjoy.

If it wasn't for the assist feature you'd be extremely and obviously wrong there, but honestly glad they did add it anyway since I mainly wanted to enjoy the game for the amazing story.

No, he's still right.

Celeste is extremely forgiving, letting you come back to the same screen when you die.

It is programmed to correct small mistakes by players, such as jumping after they leave a ledge or ignoring a bump on the end of a wall.

It allows for nearly perfect control of the character so as long as you can beat every level provided you figure out what moves to make.

It introduces its mechanics slow and steady so you master each of them before being thrown on more complicated challenges with each of them.

It balances its post-game content so that the first post-game level is actually slightly easier than the last main level.

It's got the best learning curve I've seen in any game. Anyone can be great at Celeste. The game wants you to be great and is designed to make you great.

It's the most 2004 game that's come out in the last decade.

I respect it for what it is even though I no longer care about that kind of platformer like I used to. I fully understand why it's popular.

It's pretty good, but the gameplay leaves little room for creativity once you're past the introductory areas

there's one specific sequence of button presses that will get you past each challenge, and it's a matter of how well you can execute the timings

It's extremely good in every way. I think it starts to break down at the much higher difficulties, because they started relying more on super specific precision (IWBTG). But the DLC chapter that came out is both super difficult AND super fun.

If you don't like Super Meat Boy and such then you probably still won't like it though.

it's currently #9 on my list of favorite games ever, mostly for the story, music, and atmosphere, and also how the gameplay fits really well with all of those things.

the gameplay on its own is pretty good, but not very revolutionary. I finished a lot of the harder challenges in the game but can't say I really enjoyed them that much. Anything with the chapter 8 mechanics was pretty interesting though.

It's really a great little platformer. Has high points and low points based on how much you like certain level gimmicks (wind especially), but it's got a great, consistent bit of momentum and always tries new things. Has a story that might strongly resonate with you, might not, one of those personal experience-type deals where if you like/see yourself in the main character, it'll be effective.

Really think the post-game story content takes away from the core message, though. I was happier when I just beat the game rather than trying to COMPLETE the game.

I'll grant that some levels are open enough, but when you're getting to c sides they're so precise that the average player has no other options

They're basically quicktime events at a certain point, with the added puzzle of needing to figure out what the correct buttons are

I mean yeah, if you really get into speedrunning and the game's engine you can find some exploits, but that doesn't influence the average player.

I've probably played Celeste more than most people in this topic, Steam says I have 122 hours in it, which is from two full 100% playthroughs and then going for some goldens.

I'd consider Celeste a top 15 game but I consider the Rayman games (Origins and Legends) top 10 and I voted for Legends in a very close call here.

Origins is better than Legends as well though, the platforming is just better designed. But I just don't think platforming has ever been done better than those games.

Celeste's story is lovely but I voted based on gameplay in this case.
