Just past the RPD section on my first playthrough. Playing on hardcore. Right now Id say that this game is good! But Im not as in love with it as I was with 2 at this point. Well see how this continues.

The difference between Hardcore and Nightmare is incredibly noticeable. Hardcore is basically for you to learn the basic routing, Nightmare is where the real game is. Bonus being enemies and (non-key) items are re-arraigned too, so even with knowing the route you'll still get surprised.

This rooftop boss fight is humbling me on Hardcore. I thought I went in with a pretty good armament, but the fucker is relentless and I don't want to use ALL of my healing items.

The answer to any one of those questions is "get good" with the perfect dodges because then it'll auto-aim at the weak point (which is the metal covering over his heart on that fight).

You literally cannot beat the final boss on Nightmare/Inferno without perfect dodging chains.

Nice! I'm probably gonna cheese those tougher difficulties with an infinite weapon or something, but as you said, there's probably no cheesing the boss fights.

By the way, is it just my 5-year-old PS4, or does anyone else's console sound like a jet engine when running this game? I've always thought the PS4 was a pretty loud console, but this is ridiculous. I feel like the damn thing could start smoking any second.

I'm using a launch PS4 and yeah, it's trying to launch into space. I use headphones, so I can't normally tell, but when I've taken them off I've been concerned. Friend has a Pro and hasn't had any issues.

And actually, all the bosses job to the IRL. It's just the last one that forces you into perfect dodge mode. Nightmare is easily doable without box items (and is my preferred way to play the game!) but while I'm sure you CAN play Inferno normally it just becomes unfun at points.

Just beat the game. Thoroughly enjoyed it. My main gripe is I think it lost a lot of its identity - location wise. I think it was probably inevitable because the majority of the original game took place in nondescript streets.

But in both previous remakes you always knew where you were in comparison to the original games.

Also I agree with the fact Nemesis could have stalked more.

Still throughly enjoyed it though. I'm going to try all the modes without the Rocket Launcher - get as much play time as possible!

My opinion is I think that 8 out of 10 reviews are accurate. It's pretty good on its own but not as good as RE2 and might have been better served as a large DLC expansion for RE2 instead of its own release

Of course this is ignoring resistance which I haven't even tried yet, but I will probably after playing FF7 since it has its own trophy list and platinum

I wrapped up my first playthrough yesterday. Yeah, 8/10 sounds right. Overall I very much enjoyed my experience. I think hearing the early previews tempered my expectations.

One thing I'll say though, I actually really liked the boss fights! On Hardcore, they felt like the right amount of difficult without being just giant damage sponges.

Okay, RE3 beaten! I don't think it's a particular great remake tbh, but it is a great game on its own. I agree with Cave, I wish the original locations were better preserved. Grill 13, Raccoon Press, maybe even an expanded City Hall would've been cool. On the other hand, new areas like Jill's apartment and that little house after Kendo's were neat to say! The layout of the city was more realistic in general. Since that's what they going for I'm sure, I think they nailed it!

The Uncharted comparison was very apt. This is some of the most set-piece-y RE since RE6. Not sure how that's gonna hold up on replays but hey those sections were fun while they lasted. The game was definitely at it's best though when you were just given one location to explore and unlock (you know, like RE). Carlos in the hospital or the initial Raccoon Streets were the best examples of this. Nemesis was definitely neutered for the worst overall, and I barely felt his presence at all by the second half of the game. I missed that heart-stopping moment every time he would burst in running after you in the original.

Character wise, the game is a marked improvement. The game made me care about Tyrell Patrick of all characters, someone who barely even gets 30 seconds total of screentime in the original. And more time spent with Carlos and his budding partnership with Jill was a very satisfying arc. I admit Nicholai was a bit of a downgrade, but I also liked his increased rivalry with (and being a foil to) Jill. Story wise, it felt very abridged (much like RE2make) like an Umbrella Chronicles retelling or something but it definitely wasn't as egregious as RE2make's B scenario.

I definitely enjoyed the game a lot though, and look forward to the harder modes. I still think it's a miracle this even exists in the first place.

Yay, opinion time! I actually seriously love the game and think it's getting a weirdly bad rap mostly based on its length. And to be fair this is a pretty rough recommend for $60. I paid $45 and I think that's super fair, though.

Basically everything up until the subway crash is legit dream-come-true level good IMO. The streets of Raccoon City are so well designed, Nemesis was on the prowl, the music was fantastic, ahhhhh, it's was all just amazing. The game does lose a bit of focus in the middle as Nemesis turns into little more than a recurring boss, a bunch of stuff is cut and everything sans the hospital becomes much more linear. There's also like, one or two puzzles in the entire game which is wild after RE2make.

But even then, there's a ton of good in there! The game is just plain fun to blitz through thanks to the dodge feeling amazing, and even in the worst third of the game we get a vastly improved hospital. The characterization is probably some of the best in the history of the series, especially Jill who is absolutely at her best ever here. So much sass, and so many quotable lines. Contrary to Snake's post, I actually enjoyed the new take on Nicholai quite a bit, particularly since his new motivations/mysterious backer could actually prove interesting for the story going forward if we believe he somehow made it out alive.

Also Jill wielding that railgun is somehow simultaneously one of the most ridiculous but also best things to ever happen in the series.

Overall it's certainly not a perfect remake just by virtue of how much of the original isn't there, but this is a great telling of the RE3 story and a damn solid entry in one of my favorite series! If it gets any kind of post-launch support like RE2 did (like Mercenaries please god Capcom it would be so fun on this engine) it will be even better. I think this feels like the perfect companion game to RE2make, their differing focuses complete each other in a kind of beautiful way actually. In 5ish years we'll probably be getting "The Raccoon City Collection" with both those games in a single executable and it will feel like one of the most natural things ever, I bet.

Okay, I think it's easily the weakest of the REMake trilogy. Some of the decisions made in rewriting the plot are more than questionable and the entire tone is skewed for the entire game, with it being unable to decide which side of the fence (new vs old) it wants to come down on. Nothing says that more than the RE4 siege section.

I will only accept Nicholai's 180 from Umbrella Monitor to Umbrella sabetour if he comes back in 8 and it's expounded on. That being said, the little wink and wave on the subway was perfect.

Jill is the best Jill she's ever been. Her best line may even just be the sarcastic "OK" with eyeroll as she gets into the subway. I love this Jill.

Nemesis, as Jill points out, is a bitch in gameplay. But in the setpieces he still has his presence.

I hate that they took away Brad's defining characteristic and Marvin already had a story (OF2) for how he got bit. But if they had to do this, it wasn't bad. People are up in arms about Brad talking, but we've always seen this right before the final turn ala Kendo's daughter or even 4//Itchy Tasty.

I love the new hospital. I hate that Jill doesn't go to RPD and just finds a random lockpick. Nemmy through the RPD window is THE RE3 moment for me. But seeing the licker attack on the officers was cool. Wish the holes in RPD had been Nemmy, not Carlos though.

So a lot of my issues are that it's a good game but not the best RE3 game, which is a letdown at times. It's still fun in an alternate universe kind of way, except now I imagine this is the prime universe "whoops"

Yeah, I was really disappointed in this, since RE3 has the hardest puzzles in the series too. No water sample or orbs, or even allusions to them, I mean come on!

Also epilogues would've been cool inclusions!

I don't know if these new remakes are meant to replace the originals in that way (unlike the original REmake which is definitively the canon), but I think they stand alongside them as additional interpretations.

We won't really know if these stories are meant to be the new canon until a mainline game confirms it, which may not even happen in 8 if the rumors are true and that one's mostly about Chris and Ethan.

I beat it a couple days and agree with much of the sentiment already posted. The game had a tough time finding its identity at parts, alternating between horror and action in ways that didn't blend as nicely as in RE2Make. The most egregious culprit was the Carlos siege, which didn't need to be in the game, especially as a culmination to the surprisingly well-done and spooky hospital. Still, a worthy remake with much more good than bad, though I'm glad I tempered my expectations after catching wind of the online backlash. Enemy variety was possibly the best in RE history, and they did a fine job with Jill.

My single favorite moment may have been walking around that corner in RPD only for the soundtrack to blast as you notice a licker right next to you. I did NOT expect lickers in this game and was almost nostalgic to see them.

Also, I just finished my Sprinter run (Assisted, Rocket Launcher, Coins - so all the cheese) in 1:02. That's the fastest I've ever beaten a Resident Evil game, and I've only been playing this a few days. A quality, albeit brief, addition to the series.

Assuming you're not just blowing through with IRL (in which case you only need a safety save at the final boss) I do right before the power plant in case the DDs are dicks and then before each of the four Nemmy fights.

I blew through with the IRL, but it was my first time through Inferno so I used up all 5:

Before Drain Deimos
At Kendo's Shop (before Rocket Launcher Nemesis, which killed me before)
At the start of NEST (because it had been a while since saving)
Before first Nemmy NEST fight
Before last boss

I hadn't planned much apart from knowing I'd use up three saves at the Drain Deimos, Rocket Nemmy, and the last fight. Even with the IRL, there's some danger because Jill takes damage quickly, so a Nemesis combo during the chase sequences can kill you. Also, in Nightmare/Inferno, there are a few new spots for Hunter Gammas, and they might have the only one-shot attack in the whole game, so be careful.

Either way, putting the bow on this game is way easier than getting the S+ in RE2. They give you too many options here (in RE2, you could only get away with using the infinite knife), the game's shorter, and you have 2 more saves to play with.
