I would at least call your boss and ask for the purpose of this large gathering before you commit yourself to it

I asked him when he told us, he said he was just asked to relay the message. Whether he knows or not, he ain't telling me

Sucks for those who need the commission. Not the best time to buy a car imo. Also, not the best time look for a job or losing one.

I can tell my dealership is desperate for business because the offer they send me every couple weeks is suddenly like 50% better.

As of right now parts and service is considered an essential business, so we're going to finish out the week and then probably start splitting shifts next week. That's subject to change though, nobody really knows how to proceed with this.

I thought I heard somewhere that auto manufacturers were being commissioned by breather/ventilator manufacturers to help craft parts for the increased demand for medical breathing assistance equipment?

Maybe, but I'm at the dealership level so the only affiliation with the manufacturer is that we sell their shit lol

Business as usual for now, maybe split shifts and less hours starting next week. I don't think they know what they want to do just yet - yesterday they said they would be no sales team at all and now they're running a skeleton crew out on the floor. Who knows.

Oh, one interesting fact: apparently one of our technicians was noticeably sick and sent home that same day. The other techs said he had been visibly coughing and otherwise ill since Thursday, and still came in on Monday and even Tuesday to finish a transmission job to get his hours. It wasn't until this meeting that someone was able to get the attention of upper management to officially tell him to go home.

So, yeah, he didn't come in today, and is supposedly getting tested. These are all rumors of course, so who the fuck knows.

All I know is that we've been dead lately and I'd rather just be furloughed and apply for unemployment.

Just got an email from work:

This required notice is being sent by U.S. Mail and email to all employees of Jim Koons Automotive Companies pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. If you have questions, please contact the Controller at your dealership.

March 26, 2020
To: All Employees of Jim Koons Automotive Companies
From: Jim OConnell

Subject: Company Layoffs

It is with great regret that we must inform you that, as a result of the recent Executive Orders from the States of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia to modify and/or reduce operations due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting loss of business, the company plans to lay off a substantial number of employees beginning immediately and possibly more in the near future. Receipt of this notice does not signify the loss of your position individual employees will be informed of their employment status by their managers.

Due to the unforeseeable nature of these events and the uncertainty surrounding the timeline for resolution, we were unable to provide prior warning of these layoffs. Our hope is to reverse these layoffs and rehire affected employees as soon as possible; however, the uncertainty of this pandemic may prevent us from doing that.

All employees who are directly affected will be notified by March 27, 2020 and will have the opportunity to apply for state unemployment assistance by visiting the website for the appropriate state:

DELAWARE unemployment: https://ui.delawareworks.com/

Should you have any questions about this, please feel free to reach out to your store Controller.

Yeah, so that's why they were collecting and confirming our personal contact info earlier this week.

Haven't heard a goddamn thing from my immediate superior. It was just business as usual as far as he was concerned.

Then again, he's the kind of manager that'll give you a slightly sorry look and tap you on the shoulder and say it's just business, so who knows

Well the email said you'd know by the 27th so you might try tapping him on the shoulder and being proactive about it just so you can get a clearer picture about your future
