Right now I'm in the middle of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William L. Shirer. It's a massive book, originally six volumes and some 1700 pages. It's really pretty fascinating, with lots of information that's never mentioned in school or TV documentaries. Like Weimar Republic politics. It's also amazing how badly the Allies blew it. Hitler could have been stopped so easily in 1936 when he sent just 3 battalions into the demilitarized Rhineland (about 1000-1500 troops), much too small of a force to defend against the French. He could have been stopped again during the Anschluss, or during the invasion of Czechoslovakia, when Hitler left his western frontier virtually unguarded. (This is as far as I've gotten so far, like I said it's 6 freaking volumes).

Before that I read Nightfall by Isaac Asimov, The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors by James D. Hornfischer, and The Fall of Arthur by J.R.R. Tolkien.

What have you been reading?

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I should really pick another book to read; I've been going through the series over again for the past few months, and it is beginning to become stale.

The malazan book of the fallen by Steven Erikson. Just finished book 8 (out of 10) and I'm really enjoying it. In some respects it feels like game of thrones with a greek pantheon. Lots of gods meddling and scheming against each other while a bunch of poor mortals are caught in the middle.

This topic.

idk, I might have time soon. Sounds like they're shutting down the state, although I'll kinda get stuck telecommuting so it's not like I'll have a ton of time off or anything.
