My head cannon is that pirate captain Yosemite Sam is hunting for Bugs Bunny and looks down the wrong hatch of the ship, and I fire on him. Now he's all toasted and covered in soot, and his mustache is on fire, and that's where Rey came from.

When I saw the clones of Snoke I thought that she was going to be a clone of Palpatine, or like a child spliced with the dna of Palpatine or something. That would make sense more

The official explanation that was totally not in the movie at all is essentially Palpatine created clones as a precaution as he sensed Vader would turn to the light side, and used his powers to transfer his will into a clone while he fell to his "death." One of these clones ended up as a failure so he transferred to another clone, the one you see in the movie. The failed clone is Rey's father.

I dunno. Just seems like bullshit to try to explain away a plothole they didn't realize was there.

It's also pretty much identical to the EU plot of Dark Empire. Which is hilarious because all along super nerds have been bitching "WhY DOn't TheY JUsT uSE thE eU?", and then turned around and complained about the whole Palpatine thing in Rise of Skywalker.

Kylo Ben's whole shtick felt unearned of course but that's par for the course.

Overall, this movie was pretty lame but I wasn't expecting anything really. I think everyone expected the movie was gonna turn out lame, they literally had to resurrect a villain because they had no idea what to do story wise.

I actually thought Good Ren was lame af.

After establishing the hell out of the idea that he's not cut out to be a bad guy for the whole trilogy, when he finally turned good guy he somehow felt even less cut out for it.

Now that you put it like that, it... actually works. Like how hilarious is it that he's worse at being "a good guy" (let's of course use that term loosely)

Lol I feel like something such as this was done before on a show. Like a character that failed so hard at both sides, only in that series it was meant to be intentional.

Maybe because I'm not really a fan of all this Star Wars stuff but the movie I liked out of these was Rogue One. It had a lot of weirdness true, but I loved Donnie Yen in it and his character really made me interested in the lore of this franchise, something none of the other movies have done ever. I actually wanted to know more about the force and the universe this takes place in.

Yep, adding mystery back to the Force after the prequels tries to remove it all for some reason was the best possible move.

I especially love that it wasn't even clear whether the Force even helped Donnie out or if it was just dumb luck.

Neither of which would have been a problem if Disney didn't cave to all the whiners and just let the story finish.

But nooooo we gotta have nostalgia and **** and ruin the story they've been telling. Like it or not, they could have at least tried to stick the landing.

George Lucas didn't have very good sequel ideas either. But it still would've been better as long as he at least stayed on track for the whole series, instead of dropping everything he built up too for nostalgia pandering like Ep 9.

Personally, I dont think that doubling down on midichlorians wouldve ended well in any shape or form. Ill take nostalgia pandering over that any day of the week.

Theres no sticking the landing when your face has already hit and is currently skidding on the floor. Theres only damage control, which is exactly what Episode 9 is.
