Any time there's a conflict, the rebellion are always the good guys. And not just Star Wars. If there is a story in which the people fighting against the establishment are the bad guys, they're terrorists, fifth columnists, saboteurs, or some other dirty terms which make them seem unsavory. Even movies centered around the American Civil War never refer to the Confederates as rebels unless the film is pro-Confederate. --- "I am fearful when I see people substituting fear for reason." The Jedi were not actually trying to keep "balance" but rather were fighting to institute theocratic fascism of their own flavor across the galaxy. Palpatine wasn't given a trial, he was "too dangerous to let live." Mind control is unethical in the extreme, even when it's "for a good reason," yet Jedi have no qualms about it's use. Some of the Rebel factions devolved into straight up terrorist kind of stuff to the point that the main collection of Rebels distanced themselves. Does using a squid creature to suck the memories out of people's minds, usually driving them insane in the process, seem like a super chill and cool way for "the good guys" to determine if somebody is an Empire spy? That's a bit along the lines of "if she drowns she wasn't a witch" logic. We're introduced to Cassian by seeing him get vital information from an informant...and then shoot him in the back rather than try to get them both away from the Storm Troopers. Later on, Cassian's mission is to assassinate somebody who was taken away at gunpoint and forced to work on threat of his daughter being hunted down and killed. Coooooool cool cool cool. I haven't read much in the way of Star Wars stuff, but I know there's at least one canon book (Twilight Battalion I think it was) that actually has civilians living on Empire planets basically telling the Rebels that they're just making everything worse and fucking up the ability to just work and have a safe, peaceful life. <cite>Tenlaar posted [p:935990644] in Is there a...
