Do you think it's wrong to refer to the coronavirus as originating from China?

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-51928011

China has reacted angrily after US President Donald Trump referred to the coronavirus as Chinese.

The first cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019.

However, last week a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman shared a conspiracy theory, alleging the US Army had brought it to the region.

It's factually correct, although confusing since it could refer to any number of viruses originating from there.

Many diseases are named after the region they were first found.

German Measles, Ebola, Spanish Flu, Valley Fever, West Nile Virus, Zika Virus and Lyme Disease are just a few that I can think of.

And while most of those aren't named after a country, they are all named after the region they were originally found. The more common Wuhan Virus, instead of Chinese Virus, should be perfectly acceptable.

He's not wrong, but there's really no reason to call it a Chinese virus, especially where Europe is currently more threatening. That just distracts from the actual epidemiological reality of the situation and inflames racial tensions.

China trying to say the virus is American in origin is obvious nonsense.

Basically this. Calling it the Wuhan Virus or some other dumb term is needlessly inflammatory and also misleading.

At this point, it really doesn't matter where the virus started, because it's everywhere now.

It does. Because a huge reason why it got so bad was because of the CCP and it's terrible policies and methods. And now it's trying to push a lie that the U.S. started the virus. Do not let them get away with the rebranding of history.

Virus originates in China. China tries to keep the infection under wraps. Eventually cannot keep the infection hidden. Infection spreads all over the world. People blame China. China gets butt blasted. China tells its citizens to say the virus is from America for citizenship credits. Mass Chinese promote this idea.

Why the fuck is "Chinese virus" bigoted, according to you, but "Wuhan virus" isn't?

It's called COVID-19. This is not hard to figure out.

If that's your logic, then China could feasibly say they're just pushing back against Trump rebranding history by him claiming that he knew it was a pandemic all along and was totally on top of things.

Yes, the Chinese government fucked up their initial response. So did the US. So did a lot of places.

That is entirely immaterial anymore. Yell and finger point all you like about whose fault it is that the virus got this bad, but ultimately none of that is particularly important right now. The main thing people *should* be focused on is how to stop the spread.

I'll explain slowly.

In this case, the term "Chinese" is used specifically as an ambiguous term which is more used in order to point the finger at the Chinese/China in general, while Wuhan is a more precise term that refers to the virus by it's point of origin rather than it's more scientific name. I mean, even I, someone that's not exactly known for liking leftist virtue signalers, can see that refering to it as "Chinese virus" is a little pushing it, you'd think even you could comprehend. And get this, because this is going to sound crazy to you, but many different terms can be correctly used to refer to a disease. Crazy, huh?

It's why people might know exactly what you're talking about when you say "Tchernobyl" and might not if you said "That Russian nuclear explosion." Easy enough to comprehend? Do you not see how one term is perfectly usable while the other might be a little more annoying? It's why people used the term Spanish flu despite it being the influenza.

Also, look at the users making a being deal out of it. I am sure you will find a very logical, expected common link.
