Not Yang because IIRC his UBI implementation would not provide income to you if you were getting $1000 a month from the social safety net already (if you were getting something from it but not $1000/month it would cover the gap to get you to $1000 but no more) so the ones most disadvantaged would not be seeing any change in their situation. It was pretty much the most regressive implementation possible!

Which is why I opposed Yang's UBI despite being in favor of the idea generally!

i didn't expect someone to actually go through with this in politics but one person has openly stated it, is going to have something in the house, and believes it should stack.

Of course I'm assuming he's talking specifically about the H1N1 pandemic in 2009, but there are other strains of H1N1 (notably the Spanish Flu was H1N1 which the CDC estimates as having killed 675,000 in the US), and also even the 2009 strain I believe still circulates today--it's just that we have a vaccine and treatment now

Clarifying this - travel bans themselves are ineffective and healthcare experts the world over were advising other courses of action that would have had a far greater effect. You can't give trump a participation trophy just because he did something that you, a non-expert, think would be effective. Give him a trophy when he actually listens to experts, implements their suggested actions, and doesn't actively try to downplay the situation in order to make himself look better.
Experts say don't ban travel to an infected country. Trump bans travel to infected country. Hmmmm.

Too early to tell this one. Trump listens to Tucker, who was very critical on what he's doing. He also cares a lot for image and perception so if both go down he'll flip hard to whatever makes him more liked.

It's the one perk of a guy who wants to be loved. Fortunately state governments are being FAR more effective, one of those times when the two layers of government experiment has been super beneficial.

This is exactly the issue. These events are only going to get more common. See the below talk:

https://www.ted.com/talks/alanna_shaikh_coronavirus_is_our_future/
Global health expert Alanna Shaikh talks about the current status of the 2019 nCov coronavirus outbreak and what this can teach us about the epidemics yet to come

Also of note, Corrik is unsurprisingly wrong - the experts suggested that we do many other things besides closing the borders, but that stuff wasn't as sexy or xenophobic. For details, listen to the talk.

long term damage from coronavirus has been long established so you're definitely late to this one.

permanent lung damage, new heart issues, new kidney issues, new neurological issues, and infertility have all been documented long term effects. it doesn't always happen but the lung damage definitely is the most common of them all because this virus basically fills your lungs with mucus so thick, it practically glues your lung as you suffer from pnumonia. as a result, being on a ventilator for a short period of time isn't necessarily going to be enough. in terms of neurological damage, it does seem that the random fainting we saw in China may also have been a symptom of having coronavirus.

also what China considered "mild" cases would include any of the above. the level above that is literally organ failure.

do note that all of the harsher stuff is most likely from the stronger strain of coronavirus. the weaker one shouldn't give results that extreme but we've only found out about the two different strains for like two weeks now so a lot wasn't there.

I can double check, but it is not coronavirus that does that to you - it is pneumonia. It is an extremely common side effect of pneumonia to have long term lung damage. So mild cases aren't likely to cause organ damage, only those that eventually develop into pneumonia.

a bit of both.
coronavirus directly affects the lungs, unlike the flu, and can give you pneumonia through that.
it can give you pneumonia the same way the flu does. i don't think we've a clear idea as to how it does that or any of the other side effects - especially infertility - but the lung damage was known in early Jan. fainting one/neurological issues, that's newer. infertility i think was known in late Jan, maybe early Feb.

bear in mind we don't know how long term these long term effects are either. it's entirely possible that people will recover from some of the damage as their body heals. just not enough time to know.

Also I should point out it is extremely unlikely people are catching the virus a second time. The prevailing theories right now are:

1) There are two strains of COVID-19 (seems unlikely, but possible)
2) It has a very long incubation which was confusing doctors and the kits themselves are not as accurate as initially thought. So you would get a negative result, clearing them, they'd go back out in the world, but would then test positive on a follow up like five days later. Not because they "caught" the test again. But because the initial check failed.

(Credentials: I am a scientist and I actually have multiple test kits in lab right now)

There are two strains the L and S strain according to a study.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11096171/coronavirus-mutated-two-strains-aggressive/

And, that people can have both strains at the same time. Each strain doesn't provide immunity to the other.

I mean, it's early but it would explain some of the baffling cases.

Also, it causes lower and upper respiratory tract issues. Reports of GI issues following the virus.

this one is definitely true at least.
it's why quarantines went from 14 days to 24 days to 28 days, it was found to last 27 days at the longest. with that said even from people who are "cured" from it, positive results have been seen in their poop. so there's a definitely chance that some are still a carrier after being cured/it lays dormant and that "re-infection" is just the same one coming back. a lot more research needed to understand this and how permanent this virus is.

it is unlikely though, that's true. Japan had one case and while China did have one province with 14%, faulty testing could be partially responsible. they did retest everyone out of Wuhan a second go around but ever since Italy they've been much quieter so good info out of there has become a lot harder. that said, media will still occasionally report on things, though some of it's a bit old news.

like this one: infertility and testicular damage.
