My girlfriend and I are discussing dreams and what they mean to us, wanted to get a random sampling of opinions

I don't think they mean nothing because they come from our subconscious, but I don't think they are like some kind of prophecy or something.

They are generally loosely related to things going in in your life either directly or indirectly. Sometimes its obvious others time not so much.
I feel like often times we revert back to relive moments in our past even if the dream isnt a direct mirror image of the event we are reliving.

That's as far as it goes imo. People who do stuff like this are nuts ->> "oh you dreamt about a fish let's see that's gotta mean we should read your tarot cards cause fish mean riches was it orange oh orange fish means jello was it bigger or smaller than 5 peanuts cause bigger means sun rotation was it in a lake or a pond or an ocean because it could mean death or prosperity or cancer then death "

My dream last night was me going into the bedroom and seeing a snake. It was one of those orange/black/white or whatever snakes where one type of color combination is venomous, while the other is harmless. I couldn't remember which was which, so I yelled for my partner to google it, but in the meantime I had to stop my old dog from going near it. It started getting aggressive and was raised and poised to leap at me right before I woke up.

Surely it can only mean good things.

I mean I don't believe they are prophetic in any real way, but they certainly tell you something about yourself. Whether it's important or not is up to the individual. If you want your dream to mean something then it will, if not then you'll probably learn what you need to learn in another way regardless.

There was one that literally happened on the news after I woke up, but most of them haven't been anything special.

In 2012 I was in a bit of a career rut. Journalism wasn't really taking off and I wasn't really feeling it. But then I wrote down "teacher" in the "occupation" field of a form I was filling out in a dream.

When I woke up I couldn't get it out of my head. It was like someone performed Inception on me. Started pursuing it the next day and 8 years later I'm still a teacher.

So I guess a fair bit, yeah.

Some of them maybe, but with the horrifying dreams I have it makes it hard to count them all as meaningful.

I mean they're indications of mental health, where my brain is at, and where I see myself and the world around me. They're useful tools of determining how I'm doing and what I want to do on a subconscious level.

I've never had a dream prophecy come true so probably not great soothsayer tools.

I did have a dream that I narrowly avoided death by not being able to go on a field trip next week so if I die or if I avoid dying then I guess I'll let you know

The most notable things about my dreams is that I have pretty consistent locations that are similar to but not exactly like real places, like a much, much larger version of the public pool from the town in Ontario where I grew up that has massive, labyrinthine changing rooms, and can only be reached by bus.

Gramps dying in '99... That sadly came true. I think subconsciously this was the warning.

Dreaming of the job I originally went for the previous year with a deadline to fax over (it was 2011), scored another job and the week after was considered for previous job I'd gone for.

I usually dream when I'm focused/hopeful/stressed.

Eh, I almost never remember my dreams. Only a couple times a year and even then, the memories are usually vague.

When I do remember them they're either 1. random nonsense or 2. me pining after some mysterious dreamgirl
