I'm been watching some thunderf00t science videos recently and he pointed out that the green initiative of youtubers planting 2 million trees is fundamentally useless since you'd have to plant 20 billion every year just to match current consumption growth rates.

Therefor, my solution. The Frankincense MIRV (a play on the Gifts of the Magi); A warhead that can plant trees across a massive area quickly on the orders of millions. Each reentry vehicle can hold several hundred thousand pinecones... or whatever.

...

Secondly.

Apparently human fat has more stored energy per unit mass than TNT... daaaaaang son. The problem with fuel is that it's "too good", it's very energy dense and safe.

Therefor, my solution: Fossil fuel synthesis! This isn't a new idea, as it can be done with the FischerTropsch process, but the catalysts are rare, expensive... and use SLAVE LABOR (in the case of Cobalt). So where do we get the source? The CATTLE industry! Yup, I'm suggesting buttplugs to collect methane for methanol synthesis into gasoline synthesis

EDIT: Of course, buttplugs is just a joke... contrary to popular belief the methane generated from cows is not from farts, but from burps

Best idea: get rid of the hot air bags in Washington DC. That alone will cool off the entire planet....

Let's just genetically engineer a harmless bug that propagates quickly and scrubs the air of impurities. As long as it has a good food source and a lifecycle that increases air quality and can fly up to fairly high altitudes, I don't see why it couldn't solve the issue. Make it so it dies when the air is purified so it self regulates it's population.

Temporary solution; people will just start breeding again.

Overpopulation isn't a factor of numbers, but a ratio of production. It's kinda a self-solving problem; The more people you have, the more die from overpopulation until you reach equilibrium... perfectly balanced.

Aren't the trees growing near the North Pole supposedly causing the ice caps to melt faster? They need to clear that treeline.

It doesn't self solve that cleanly. It'll go past equilibrium and then spike down hard way under equilibrium and repeat that process. Thats if space/food is the issue. If something environmental or warlike happens, it could very well just drive people to extinction and then theres a lot of things that could drive humans to near extinction but that we as a species would survive.

Thanos used literal omnipotence to apply a band-aid solution to the problem using very mortal thinking. He could have rewritten reality so that resources weren't actually finite and overpopulation could never again be a thing, but instead he just used infinite power to speed up what he was already doing the old-fashioned way.

Humans are in a weird spot with regards to overpopulation. Most of the fears surrounding it are based on people not liking the idea of having to force other people to starve to death in order to survive, but it goes deeper than that. Humans aren't reliant on the natural availability of resources like most species are, relying instead on agriculture and other industries to keep ourselves alive. The chaos that would come from everyone fighting over food, however, would cripple those industries and hurt the supply, further driving our environment's carrying capacity down. We'll eventually hit an equilibrium, certainly, but the process of resolving overpopulation will drive that equilibrium point a lot lower than what our current carrying capacity is.

No, he didn't. In the long run it wouldn't have helped anything. It would just take twice as long.
