That still makes it the 20th UTC. Actually if they start at 4pm Pacific that's actually 11pm UTC not midnight.

So i was searching Google for older contests and many times people will call other people to vote for a game, like for example Final Fantasy sub-reddit will make a call for its fans to come here and vote for it, is this legit? We are doing GameFaqs opinion on Game of the Decade, if people can call other people to come here and vote doesn't that invalidate the whole point of the contest which is to figure out which game is GameFaqs users Choice of "Game of Decade"
Sounds weird to me, not to mention the voting is probably gonna be rigged by multiple IP voting since its a public contest and anyone can vote.
Personally i think it should be Users above Level 15 can only vote, to avoid alts and multiple-ip abuse. But nevermind im in it for the fun, the results are going to be rigged for the best cheating fanbase.

Gatekeeping to that degree will just make the contest have 0 fun

I mean the last contest managed to avoid a overwheming rally so there's a chnace we are past that era now. Or maybe not. Hard to say.

We did have some micro rallies that influenced the results of close matches (I started a Samus rally myself that almost made her beat Mario), but those are pretty much impossible to avoid. The thing is that with the anti-rally measures and the fact the internet doesn't care about this site anymore, it's harder for them to grow too big.

I made a similar point several pages ago.
Apparently it's not a "What's the best game?" contest, it's "What do you think other people will vote for, rally toward and deem most popular irrespective of the game's quality or content?".
Completely and utterly pointless, but there you go; that's what it is.

Not only that but anybody can vote, they will just keep multiple voting with a vpn program, its all over PS4 board, just check out any poll, for example Witcher 3 Vs Other game, probably these days someone who really hates Witcher 3 winning polls so they mass spam vote the other game with a vpn, its there, when game like Skyrim can go 100+ votes in under 30 minutes you know something is fishy. Similar poll was made God of War Vs BOTW and God of War was leading until magically BOTW gained a huge lead LOL. I really like all these games, but i dont like it when results can be manipulated so easily, and most people dont give a fuck.

So the real question what prevents those people from ruining the results in this contest as well? How can i trust the results?

I fail to understand what is the point of making a rally, why did you do it??? GameFaqs did make the contest to say to the whole gaming world what is their website opinion on best character or best game, yet making rally kills this exact idea, why dont we just follow what reddit and youtube says, no need for our own contest.

if it comes to me i would allow only users who are certain level, like 15 or 20, someone who have been here at least 1 month, then i would also lock IP to prevent alts from voting, then i would also show in the poll who voted for what, this way results are 95% accurate. But its hard to do and people here are not paid for their work so i understand not being motivated to make the contest more secure.

@ShortReplies I think you're failing to understand the true purpose of the contest. It's not a measurement of GameFAQs' actual opinion (only), but instead it's a contest where you cheer for and get behind your favorite character/game, inviting your friends over (and anyone else who is interested) to participate in it. It's kind of like a horse race, where you bet and root for one in particular, so anyone and everyone can participate. It helps to gather site traffic and prevent it from getting stale and predictable.

I understand your point about it invalidating the actual opinion of the site, but that's not the focus here, for the reasons mentioned above.

For a more accurate representation of the site's collective opinion, you can check the Game of the Year polls at the beginning of every year, as well as the occasional What's your favorite game of [insert series]?. Since those occur at mostly random times in the year, the usual public of the site comes and votes accordingly.

@Advokaiser
Alright, what about the other issue, where people vote multiple times to the point where few fanboys for a game can cast 200+ votes in one hour, all they have to do is download a vpn program and keep spamming votes until their favorite game win, how is that fair? this is also another issue i have with the website poll design, since everyone can vote. Registered Users only vote with at least level 15 would guarantee no cheating and also would limit the alt account power.
Unless these things have already been countered, someone said there are measure but i have no idea what can be done to prevent this. (other than what i said above)
All i can do is wait to see if the results will make sense.

Rants aside its going to be fun contest, i just dont like poor design choices where people can abuse the rule to cheat the contest, that all to it really.

On Wednesday, March 18, GameFAQs will be changing servers to a new location in "The Cloud". We've spent the past few months in preparation for this move, and we're ready to finally flip the switch.

We'll put the site in read-only mode around 7AM Pacific, and we expect to be done within a few hours. You shouldn't notice any difference on your end, and we'll still be up and running at https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ as everything that's changing is happening behind the scenes.

Because of the move, we're extending the deadline for Game of the Decade entries and pushing the battle start to Thursday, March 26, one week later. This gives us all some breathing room just in case things take a little longer than we anticipate. This also gives everyone a bit more time to work on their brackets and have the best chance of bringing home the $1,000 grand prize.

You have entered, right? If not, feel free to join in on the fun! You can enter here: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/features/gotd_e

I also picked BOTW to win, but there was a Gamespot video + poll (BOTW Vs Witcher 3) and people could vote on it, Witcher 3 won i think 67%-32%. BOTW will probably win because the Nintendo Fanbase here on Gamefaqs is quite big. If some place like a known youtube gaming channels or Reddit r/gaming type of place holds up a contest like this i dont think BOTW will be able to win it.

BOTW by itself is pretty huge. And for this site particularly its easily the strongest.

Witcher is also very popular and with a large rally of course it could win. Especially with Gamefaqs being prone to low votals

But if witcher does win so be it. At least we have a legit winner.

across the internet there are maybe 4-5 games that would consistently win GOTD across many outlets...BOTW is one of them and so is Witcher 3.

Mr Lasastryke posted...

Tbh theres only one game that could upset BOTW and it is Witcher 3 because its the only game we know where the actual developers have come out and actively said they will rally for it, and with Cuberpunk coming out it has an active community too

Even with ALL of that..it needs legitimate strength on this site to pull off that upset and i think it does. ITs much stonger than in 2015

The only other games i see winning is something like Fortnite is some idiot goes crazy with twitch streams and mass casuals vote. IT will be worse than Undertale

Which is why i'm fucking praying that doesn't happen. Allen should have been smart and put Fortnite up against something it was gauranteed to lose to.

I'm looking at Galaxy 2 over Witcher tbh. I didn't think that game was so huge as to be BOTW's rival. It wasn't a particularly strong player in 2015 IIRC.

I havent played Witcher, but it's starting to look like I should. I don't even love Galaxy 2. Galaxy 1 is way better for my taste. I have God of War beating that, people love that game from what I've picked up on. It's like they think it's the best on PS4 or something along with maybe Uncharted 4. Havent played either tbh. I feel bad The Last Guardian didn't get on there.

I had Skyrim in the finals, but after looking at it again, Dark Souls might have a shot.

super mario galaxy 2 over witcher 3 i don't see happening. as KP notes in his topic, witcher 3 would have to seriously bomb for that to happen. the 2015 stats probably aren't entirely accurate anymore. back then, there wasn't a witcher netflix show.

i do have witcher 3 losing to skyrim, though. if people do plan on rallying witcher 3, they better start on time!
