Pretty sure some of them can't hang up on young unless you are outright abusive to them (vulgar, racist, threatening, etc) so put on a long album (The Wall is a nice choice), set the phone down by the speaker, and you both get to enjoy two hours of good music.

Put the phone on Mute until the line gets hanged up. Your number gets registered as a ghost number and that particular agency stops calling you.

I haven't gotten a spam call in years.

If this logic actually works, one would think the spammers would similarly quit after 69 attempts of getting sent to voicemail.

I set my phone so that unknown numbers go directly to voicemail. Most of the spam calls don't leave messages, but there's this one preacher, "Press the numerical button 2 now," calls coming from all over the place (even a Canadian number). It used to be amusing, but now it's just tiresome.

If you can track down the source of the call and send them a form letter informing them of the federal law they're breaking, you can essentially legally extort money from them.

I saw a CNBC article about some 19 year old who became a millionaire doing this with his family and friend's lines.

I don't get enough calls or I'd test it myself.

How many calls is "enough" calls, and how do you tell them to stop calling you? My phone number is in the Do Not Call registry, I get this guy's calls (Mannasah Jordan or something, I think, there's a post on Reddit about him), and I'm kind of sick of them.

Or when the call gets blocked (there's this one number that still tries to call me at least once every couple weeks even after I blocked it, but at least that's down from the several times a day before I blocked it).

I usually get the robo call voicemails that try to trick elderly people into panicking and giving money. Like when the voicemail starts it's mid-sentence with something like "AND ONCE AGAIN THIS IS YOUR FINAL NOTICE. If you do not call back your social security number will be DISABLED."

Interesting. I have been getting calls (and once in a blue moon, a text) for about two or three years now looking for someone named Russell and I've had my number for over 15 years so I can't believe that I'm suddenly now getting calls for someone who once had the number. Come to think of it, about 10 years ago or so I got a concentrated influx of calls looking for a particular person as well (can't remember the name but it was a woman; I wanna say Mary?). Bizarre.
