Is overwatch still active? I want something popular with casuals who are at my level and not just old pros left, maybe a shooter of some sort. Team based or free for all. Any good recs?

Rocket League matches you with similar skill. OW is terrible because it focused too much on paid loot over actual content, plus it gets old having people tell you who to play as. BF was still busy a few weeks ago if you like that. Border 3 must be active too. There's always Fortnite if you just wanna shoot at stuff without worrying about anything. Apex was kinda stupid.

Based on the description of what you want, Overwatch would fit nicely. That was exactly my thoughts when I bought it for PS4 last year: knew it was very competitive on PC, but also superior on PC, but honestly I wanted a shooter I could just sit on the couch and play and Overwatch hit the spot perfectly, cause it allows me to be very competitive but at a casual level. Has been my most played game over the past year for sure.

The only downside is there is a large waittime for games if you want to play a DPS character, of which makes up 1/3rd of the team. Tank and support queue times are always immediate though.

I think Killing Floor 2 is your best bet.
It's addictive AF and not ruined with microtransactions and Chinese Communism.

How does it work now. I don't remember having to wait based on what characters I chose. What changed exactly?

Remember when I said people bitch about who you use? Yeah so they (from what I read) took the different classes and put each into a queue. Apparently your 'reward' for playing less desirable characters is a faster match. So really, any game where I can't play as I choose isn't worth going near which is why I suggest otherwise.

It sounds like you can play who you choose. But it might just take longer. Also, I dont care that much. I play support more often than not. But I do think its a dumb way to get players to choose different characters. I like some of the stupid things Ive seen in the game. Like a whine team of Symettras sitting on the point that one time. Or something ridiculous like 6 bastions for whatever reasons. But whatever...

It's not even a reward for less desirable characters. I prefer and am much better at playing support and tank anyway, so its perfect for me, better than it was before the queue system.

Sorta, you still have to hope nobody chose that character before you, and possibly deal with people bitching about your choice. 6 Bastions, did they cut the 'limit one per character'? I say so what if they want 6 of a kind. If someone doesn't like it, back out to a different match.

I mixed it up a little to get trophies but was primarily Pharah. Played a bit like Quake 3 by spamming rockets and flying around. In the end I got bored waiting for maps or the limited modes to freshen things up.

I guess. It would suck if you wanted forever to play a certain character, and somebody else choose them. As for the multiple characters, that was back in the day. I don't remember if it was actually 6. I do remember seeing a lot of one character sometimes...

And I agree that you can just back out if you didn't like a match. Though, depending on stuff, you usually weren't able to enter another group until your current match was over, I believe. Once, something happened where I got kicked out of the game for like a dropped connection. I did a quick reset, and was able to jump back in the same game after resetting the XBox. And was able to rejoin my team to help win.

I did like the other modes. My favorite was mystery hero. I actually did really well on those. That where I got most of my PotGs. I got them other times, as well. But I got the most during those matches...
