Restricted Free Agency
This minor but oddly detailed offseason event is for a small subset of players who just completed their untampered rookie contract that was exactly three years in length. These players are not eligible to be originally offered multi-year contracts by the team that holds their rights but instead one-year contracts of fixed figures based on the tender level that you offer them. Our Tender Levels for this season No Tender = no potential draft pick compensation = $0 Low Tender = potential original round draft pick compensation = $990k Mid Tender = potential 1st round draft pick compensation = $2.17 mil High Tender = potential 1st + 3rd round draft pick compensation = $2.88 mil Now, the mentioning of draft pick compensation there is only applicable if another team attempts to sign your player. It has no bearing on this first phase of RFA. It wouldn't make much sense if you had to give up draft picks to sign your own player now would it? Newcomers and people who don't have a good memory are certainly free to ask me what round a player was drafted in if that affects their tender level. That being said, you might want to keep in mind about that draft pick compensation when you determine what tender to offer your player. If you think highly of your player, you might want to offer the highest tender to deter other teams from attempting to sign them. If you don't consider a player to be a part of your future plans, you might want to offer the low tender so that they barely count against your cap space and you could end up even getting draft pick compensation if someone else wants him. A word of advice from me: The full monetary amount attached to the tenders is NOT GUARANTEED and is usually less than what they would make on the open market, so there is essentially 0 risk to offering all of your players a tender unless you personally hate them with a passion. You can also engage trade talks with other teams so that you can prearrange a trade that if X player is not signed by another team, you will trade them to Y team for Z compensation that might be lower than what Y team would have had to give up to sign them during RFA. In this scenario, you might want to offer the highest tender level to deter the maximum amount of teams from disrupting the trade. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... RFA Rules
1. I will privately contact every user and inform them of their RFAs and the tender levels. If you dont have any RFAs, then you wont be notified. 2. Users will have three days to inform me which players they wish to sign and at what level. 3. I will publicly reveal all RFAs from user and A.I. teams that can be signed by other teams (AKA were offered a tender) plus their tender levels and the base kind of deal they are looking for. 4. I will give users four days to decide any action, if any, they wish to take. If they do wish to take further action, they will PM me. Now by "any action you wish to take," I mean that everyone has an opportunity to attempt to sign RFAs from other teams. You might see some sticker shock but keep in mind that some positions are more expensive (WRs, DTs, QBs) than others (OLBs, Cs, TEs) relative to their overall rating. An 80 WR will usually be more expensive than a 90 C, and that's just how things are 5. If a team attempts to sign another teams RFA, then the user who owns the RFAs rights will have three days to decide whether or not to match the offer. The deadline for the first phase (encompassing rule #s 1 + 2) will be Saturday, February 8th at 11 PM ET. As always, do not hesitate to ask me any questions. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... What happens if I idle during the offseason?
First and foremost, I want to remind everyone that if for any reason you need/want to take a break from your B8NFLL duties, do not hesitate to tell me and ask me and I am more than willing to take temporary control of your team until you are willing and able to return. As for the four main events of the offseason, three of them have safety nets in place to prevent your team from being gutted. If you don't understand what follows, then hopefully everything will make sense when we go over the specific rules for each offseason event as they come. If it still doesn't, do not hesitate to ask questions: 1. If you idle during Restricted Free Agency - I will sign one of your restricted free agents (RFAs) at random and to a random tender level. If said RFA is signed by another team, I will default to not matching the offer and letting them sign with the other team with draft pick compensation coming your way. 2. If you idle during Signing Your Unrestricted Free Agents, I will sign one-third of your unrestricted free agents (UFAs) at random and to the deals that they are asking for. I will round up (if you have 16 UFAs, I will sign six). I will include players who will only sign via the franchise tag among the UFAs, but they will not be among those that I choose at random (aka will be used for counting purposes in your favor). Any player holding out will not count as a UFA and may be re-signed at my discretion (any knowledge of you trying to make a trade + your roster/salary cap situation will be taken into consideration). 3. If you idle during NFL Draft + Signing Rookies - I will draft for your team as if I were in charge of them using a combination method of present (positional holes, perceived opportunities, etc...) and future-oriented (soon-to-be retired players, expiring contracts, team weaknesses, etc...) ideology. 4. If you idle during Free Agency - I won't do a thing. I have it set up so that the AI has the authority to sign any roster holes user teams have on their team. At the end of the third and final round of free agency, any user team with a roster hole will have the AI sign players until all holes have been filled. I will always remind users of any roster holes they have on their team after both signing their UFAs and rookies. The roster sheet on the hub spreadsheet also mentions to the very left of how many players for each position you need to have under contract for your team. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... At first I thought you were being silly, then I read your ballot and realized you were being serious.
KCF0107 posted... I originally had a hardline stance of only considering players who debuted in the inaugural season or later and incumbent players whose career stat line showed no production entering the inaugural season (mostly OL). I immediately made one exception to include Tatum Bell who holds the record for most rushing yards in a season and whose stats pre-B8NFLL were clearly laid out and were in line with what I read online. There were only a few other players like Bell that I would have considered to make an exception for, but I have decided to scrap that idea, and will continue with my original thought, so unfortunately Andre Johnson and Nate Burleson will not be making the list. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... Okobi might have been the other guy I was considering abstaining for and forgot, but fortunately it didn't matter regardless. Also, it's hard for me to be too upset about an o-lineman being snubbed when we have such limited metrics to judge. Like I'm not sure how accountable my o-linemen should be for not getting many blocks last season and giving up a ton of sacks (68 by my count) when I switched to being pass heavy with high aggression once my initial plans fell through due to injuries to start the season. On the other hand, Alex Barron did go 43 PCs against 3 sacks last season despite how terrible everyone else was. At least if we snubbed him, so did Madden given that he made 0 Pro Bowls apparently. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Right and Alex Barron is an OT where 10+ Blocks/Sacks is the baseline for being good at the position. Okobi had 10+ at a position where 5-6+ is the baseline for being good. I've had 13 OTs have 10+ ratio seasons in the last 7 seasons. I've had 1 C do it in the same timeframe
Like yeah playstyle may matter but it should be a small portion of it. I'd imagine a lot of dudes could have put up better career numbers in different systems. There's probably been lots of HBs stifled by pass heavy systems or QBs sat behind run heavy systems. Same with WRs on run heavy teams. Okobi was on an AI led team for most (all? Has anyone had the Raiders?) of his career so I'm assuming he was in a fairly normal system. Are we saying every other teams runs negative systems for C blocks and that's why we don't see other C's averaging 10+ ratios? I mean it's not like it matters now, vote is in. I just think that's a pretty massive snub. If Okobi doesn't get in, it's unlikely any C's do in the future ... Copied to Clipboard!

RFA Phase 1 has ended
RFA Phase 2 The following posts will contain a list of all RFAs, sorted by team, that were offered tenders by their team during the first phase. Each player will have in parenthesis the draft pick compensation required to sign (not simply offer but actually sign) them as well as the default deal that they are looking for to the side. In order to even submit an offer to a player, you must have the draft picks on hand. Early has the NFL Draft order, which includes any draft pick ownership changes based on previous trades. There have been a few trades since, so keep those in mind for those affected. You should also keep in mind that if you own multiple picks in a round, signing an RFA will have you lose the worst of how ever many picks you have. For example, let's say the Dolphins try to sign Pumpkins WR Brandin Cooks. They own the 7th, 14th, and 32nd picks in the 2nd round. Should Cooks accept their offer and the Pumpkins elect not to match their offer in the third phase, the Dolphins will end up giving the Pumpkins the 32nd pick in the 2nd round (64th overall). Also remember that trades are now fully vetted by me, and all parties must be fully aware of what everyone involved is giving up and what everyone plans to accomplish with the trade. Going back to the deals in question, these deals are for the other 31 teams in the league. The team who first offered the tender is stuck with the 1 year deal unless a team submits an offer during this phase. You can also offer them a long term deal later on in the offseason as well as any time during the pre, regular, and postseason, but what's important right now is that you understand that you can do nothing about your own RFAs at this moment. If you do wish to submit an offer to an RFA from another team, the deal mentioned is not the exact deal that you have to offer them. You are free to mess with the years, total money, and/or guaranteed money. As a word of caution though, unless you are trying some bizarre psychological attack to where you offer a deal that would devastate a team financially but would be practically forced to accept, you will want to submit an offer that would ultimately net you the player you seek. Not only that, but you are in essence competing with 30 other teams for the right to simply sign an RFA. If you skimp out on any combination of years, total money, and guaranteed money, you are decreasing, sometimes substantially, the odds that you will get the player. If you do submit a custom offer, use the base deal as a benchmark. Using Bears HB Latavius Murray, he is asking for a 4 / $13.6 mil/ $2.52 mil contract. Dividing the latter two figures by the years, you find out that he is asking for an average cap hit of $3.4 mil (13.6 / 4) and annual bonus of $630k mil (2.52 / 4). I hope that everyone understands the slash line that I explained earlier in the topic, but if not, do not hesitate to ask any questions. You can direct them to me via PM or through the topic where most users could help you out. Do not feel compelled to be active in this phase if you don't want to. While most users do not, several do as well as the AI, so it isn't as if nothing happens. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ... RFA Phase 3
All users whose RFAs they gave tenders in Phase 1 and signed contracts with other teams in Phase 2 were notified via PM the player or players signed by other teams, the contracts they signed for, and the compensation they will receive if they elect not to match the contract offer. All users can do is inform me if they will match or not match the contract. The deadline to make a decision will be on Sunday, February 16th at 8 PM ET. Should you idle during this phase, you will default to not matching the contract. If all users involved make a decision well before the deadline, I will start the next offseason event early. --- KCF can't actually be a real person but he is - greengravy If you smell what the rock is cooking he's cooking crap - ertyu ...
