I finished watching the first season of Star Trek Voyager today and its my least favorite Trek so far. Its not as bad as TNGs first season, but thats not saying much.

Yeah some of the characters in voyager are just so not interesting at all

and there are so many episodes that focus on them

the character is technically an infant in human years but her species only lives like five years. But shes also a doctor and has a boyfriend and looks 25.

Voyager fucking sucks because it has too many inconsistencies. My girlfriend is in love with it and pretty much watches it constantly on Netflix.

I dont think Im in deep enough to notice inconsistencies, but I just dont care for any of the characters.

It's better than the snorefest that DS9 is.

It's got some good episodes; but I think they just botched the premise from the get-go which was the issue. Sure, things like 'cutting the travel time' would come up on occasion but, for the most part, they were 'safe'. Which ruined the whole point of the show.

The Doctor is the best character on the show. If you continue watching, you'll see how good he is.

Yeah, the show takes things way too safe, and there's so much asspull to make sure nothing happens to the main characters, it's ridiculous.

It's not the main characters being safe; it's them seemingly never being presented with a real 'risk' as it were or a choice. Like, a very good dilemma would be for Janeway to have to deal with the question of 'do I break Federation rules to keep my crew safe/increase our chances of returning home?' but she only rarely seems to get confronted with that. Especially since doing so should really impact how the crew sees and treats her. I get it's a serialized series... but this really needed to be more of a show with a defined beginning, middle, and end instead of serialized episodes where most things go back to the status quo after.

Generally the better episodes involve the Doctor, 7 of 9, and the Borg.

That first Q episode is good too.

No DS9 would mean no Season 6 of DS9 (the single greatest season of science fiction television ever created).
Then again you can't appreciate Season 6 without watching Season 7. Both seasons put together are an amazing serialized drama in of itself.
Basically just watch everything between Call to Arms through to What You Leave Behind.

Voyager makes a lot more sense if you watch it through the lens of Janeway being bipolar while the EMH and Tuvok are trying to control her condition behind the scenes.

"You are all Starfleet Officers on a Starfleet vessel, and we must uphold the Prime Directive!"

*45 minutes later*

One dead First Contact being, 2 wars started and technology given to a primitive civilization.

And that's just the first episode.

True, but by the last season the Prime and Temporal Directives are more like Prime "Suggestion".
