https://www.salon.com/2019/12/19/pelosi-threatens-to-delay-sending-impeachment-case-to-senate-until-mcconnell-agrees-to-fair-trial/

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., suggested Wednesday that she could indefinitely delay sending the two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the upper chamber until Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., concedes to the Democratic Partys request for a fair trial." In an historic vote, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of justice Wednesday. While the vote was mostly drawn across party lines, more House members voted to impeach Trump than either of the other two presidents previously impeached. But the two parties are at an impasse on how to proceed with Trumps Senate trial. McConnell wants a speedy trial with no witnesses, while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has called for a weekslong trial with new witnesses. Democrats have also criticized McConnell, who has vowed to coordinate the trial with the White House and said he will not be an impartial juror. This is what I dont consider a fair trial, Pelosi said Wednesday. Pelosi added that she would not send the articles of impeachment to the Senate unless McConnell agrees to a fair trial.

We will make our decision as to when we are going to send it when we see what they are doing on the Senate side, she continued. So far, we have not seen anything that looks fair to us. Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore., told The New York Times that dozens of Democrats want Pelosi to hold off on sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate out of concern that McConnell would not conduct a fair trial. What is gained by accelerating this process? he asked, adding that Democrats should let the speaker work her magic to get some sort of assurance if its possible that there will be a level playing field. Pelosi said Wednesday that the House would not appoint impeachment managers to prosecute the case in the Senate until the Democrats conflict with McConnell is resolved. We cannot name managers until we see what the process is on the Senate side, and I would hope that would be soon, she said. But some Democrats have also urged Pelosi not to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate at all, where Trump is all but guaranteed to be acquitted. Pelosi has not ruled that out, according to The Times. The Times reported that House leaders are not seriously considering that option, but House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., the No. 3 Democrat in the House, told CNN Thursday that he would not send the articles of impeachment to the Senate at all.

There's no reason to send it to the Senate since two people have already stated they won't act as an unbias judge. They were idiots admitting openly they were going do so since all it does is give weight to this move.

Now this is actually 5d chess. Trump is so butthurt over being impeached that not being able to be acquitted will really eat at him. Eventually he'll yank McConnells leash and make him play ball. Of course, once the evidence is allowed to be shown, it will become even more obvious how guilty Trump is and may hurt vulnerable senators in their bid for re-election if they choose to ignore the evidence and vote to acquit

I saw a comment on Reddit saying they can technically hold off on sending it to the Senate indefinitely, so say the election rolls around and Trump wins but the Senate somehow turns Democrat, then they could send it over and remove him.

Can it really happen that way?

If that situation happens. Trump wins and Senate becomes democrat. Doesn't that just mean we get Pence as President.

It actually can, yeah. So by doing this Trump really could be removed if he won again and there's nothing the republicans could do about it besides rely on on democrats in red districts to support them against removal. This is actually a great move and I hope the progressive wing understands it and don't start screaming that she isn't doing her job. The best part of it is Trump will be extremely angry at this because not only is this term in trouble but if he does manage to pull off another bullshit win but the republicans lose control of the senate he will no longer have his corrupt buddies protecting him

There still wouldn't be 67 Democrats in the Senate even if they won every seat that was up for grabs.

I think they can only hold it until the end of the current session, which would end around this time next year. So if trump wins re-election and the Democrats take the senate, the house would have to impeach him again. Which wouldnt really take very long considering theyre probably planning on doing this all again after re-election anyway.

Yeah. Maybe you get Romney and a couple other republicans to go along with it, but I don't see getting enough.

I've seen the theory floating around that all they really need to do is get the vote to be made into a secret ballot then they think they would get like half the republicans on board. >_>

Probably not, they not only need 2/3rds of the senate to vote on it and typically if the senate does not act on something within the current meeting it's not carried over to the next.

51 isn't the number for removal. 51 is the number you need to agree on trial rules. So you can call witnesses and shit like that instead it being a sham where no one is called to testify. 2/3s is what you need to remove him, which will be more likely if you call witnesses and force people to testify under oath. Which is exactly why McConnell doesn't want it to happen.
