It was Frankenstein's rejection of Adam that made him the monster of the story.

Hey man, you acknowledged the risk of spoilers when you clicked into this thread - it's right there in the title. Any spoilers for classic literature are your own fault.

Also I think the Frankenstein thing is more of a literary analysis train of thought rather than presented as the main text.

The real world reaction to Don Quixote's first part is canon to the novel itself, and the 2nd part (and Quixote's next sally) happens as a result to its in universe reception.

Frankensteins original rejection is merely what started the spiral.

The creature had multiple times showed himself to be a gentle, friendly, and compassionate being, only to be violently attacked and driven away by everyone around him.

IIRC it was the blind mans family that was the final straw. He finally befriended someone who saw him for who he really was, and couldnt judge him based on his appearance, only to have that taken from him when the mans able bodied son came home. After that, he killed Frankensteins niece or cousin or whatever.

By the time the monster demands a bride be made, sure, it seems the doctor should just comply to pacify the him. But the doctors concerns were legitimate. Even if he was at fault for the original abandonment, theres no telling what kind of personality the bride would have, if shed be complacent as the monsters partner, if she would become even worse after being rejected by the world, etc. I totally sympathize with him breaking down in what would seem like a no-win situation.

At the end of the day, I think its short-sighted to blame the creatures turn on any one factor. It was society as a whole that failed the creature. And thats what makes the story so interesting and tragic.

Its a cycle of fear and hatred that creates the monsters of the world and fuels each others violence. >_>

No, you didn't spoil anything, you just got right to the heart of the book. Well done.

Ok, so... if you're reading The Divine Comedy, you don't have to read Paradiso. Just count the scansion, it's a reducing algorithm.

Dorian Gray's corruption from a sweet, naive boy to a selfish, narcissistic man, represented by his portrait showing the ravages of time while he stays eternally youthful, is a fitting criticism of the wealthy classes and the sins they commit while they present their most beautiful face to the world.

I guess I am just cutting to the point of the books.

Also, Oscar Wilde deserved better than what he got. Even his children's stories are fantastic.

Person who knows nothing: Frankenstein is the monster.
Person who did their research: Frankenstein is the doctor.
Person who read the book: Frankenstein is the monster.
