First, we need to evaluate your last hitting ability.

For this, you are going to play as Crystal Maiden (and if already picked, Viper)

For the next 10 matches, try to get all the last hits and denies even at the cost of your ally. This will annoy your ally, but just tell them to 'git gud.'

You also don't want to push the lane, so ONLY last hit (and deny, indeed... deny early to pull your lane back). As Crystal Maiden you want to last hit with your autoattack, prevent denies with your aoe, and have your stun killing the large mob in your closest jungle (while also stacking it for your ally).

If you can't land the stack, that's ok - stacking is hella hard.

The reason you're using Crystal Maiden for last hit practice is twofold. First, her base power is pretty low but her attack sequence is comfortable, so you get better with timing. Secondly, she's one of the best camp stackers, one of the best absentee lane pushers, has a valuable global passive, and has amazing team fight presence without being a lynchpin (due to how random it lands)... so you can master multitask thinking without worrying about messing it up (like jungle Lifestealer/Ursa often do, due to positioning)

The reason you'd back up to Viper is for his ability to extremely punish weakened targets and punishing chasers. Thanks to toxins you don't have to worry about last hit timing as much, but rather positioning.

...

...

Or be a dink and rush Crystalys on Kunka and use only cleave.

They changed Viper, none of his abilities provide bonuses based on missing health anymore. His Poison Attack is now a stacking DoT/Slow/magic resistance debuff and the new Nethertoxin is an AoE DoT with a built-in break and damage that ramps up as targets stand in it.

Dangass 7.23, ruinin' everything

edit: based on the changes, brewmaster/bounty hunter would be an alternative positional practice due to their reliable critical/bonus damage. Tank Razor would also work due to the static link changes streamlining the process.

The Nethertoxin change is quite a bit older than 7.23, actually. It was 7.07 (two years ago) that changed it from the old passive to a targeted AoE (which applied break and reduced magic resist). 7.07 also changed Poison Attack from a flat DoT to one based on missing health, which kind of took over Nethertoxin's old functionality (though it no longer helped with last hitting). 7.23 tweaked both abilities to have Poison Attack stack flat damage and reduce magic resist, while removing the magic resist debuff from Nethertoxin and giving it accelerating damage. I haven't tried the new Viper, but it seems like they're trying to design him around the idea of getting stronger the longer a fight goes on (which old Nethertoxin did) without encouraging him to just pick off survivors after a fight instead of actively participating.

Assuming you can average 1200GPM at a bare minimum (hyperbole), lets move on to lane harassment.

In this task, you still want to last hit, but you can leave more for your teammate. What you want to do here is prevent your opponent from getting last hits.

There are a few heroes that specialize in this.

Jakiro is one, you have a free spell that also upsets attack speed, making the opponent's last hit timing weird, Orb of Venom can help as even small changes in speed can mess up timing

Beastmaster is the KING of this role, as you can have your boar constantly messing up your opponent's timing while also providing line of sight to prevent getting ganked (since hardline lane harassment provokes ganks)

Omniknight is fair in this role, but is more of a hard carry support, Abaddon serves this role as well. Spirit Bashhole is also good in this role sine even one casual stun will wholly stop a last hit.

Dark Seer is a special case, since you deny by pushing... your spiky orb of death will greatly punish last hit ability

Another is Phoenix, but this is a hard one since you can REALLY screw up lane... consider Phoenix your final challenge

We play the same heroes.
:D

Though I played Dazzle before the CD reduction ult and when he had the crappy Poison Touch that did like no damage. Venomancer still cool AF though.

Also, the first and most important step is to believe in yourself.
