Given how common it has become for guys to get their lives destroyed because the woman retroactively retracted their consent, sometimes years later, and the courts heavily favoring their account regardless of the lack of any hard evidence.

So short of having a signed and notarized contract how is a guy supposed to protect himself? Would secretly video taping work? As long as the tapes were never used outside of a potential court case to confirm your innocence and show the lies of the other party I don't see the issue myself.

As Jen confirmed, you can take away consent at any moment without informing anybody and continue on as though you're willing but still claim rape because you were invisibly scared at whatever point is convenient.

While it's more nuanced than this, this is the gist of it. Make sure you're comfortable with and trust them and that they're comfortable with and trust you before doing anything, making sure that they feel they can say no if they want to. Also, just pay attention. It's really not hard to figure out whether or not somebody's into it, and if they don't seem to be, stop and ask if they want to keep going. If you don't feel like you can tell, then you don't know the person well enough to be sleeping with them and should slow down before you jump to a conclusion that will make them unhappy.

A few people are talking about asking. But the problem isnt what they say. I think they are asking about if afterwards, they say that they wanted them to stop after already giving consent. So, giving consent, then taking away consent mid-sex without saying anything or doing anything that could easily or obviously show that... At least, I think thats what TC is saying...

Here's my far less charitable personal take: if someone is so incompetent that it doesn't occur to them to keep up communication with a sexual partner before, during, and after sex, that someone shouldn't be having sex. The BDSM community has had this crap figured out for decades.

Again, pay attention. If somebody doesn't want to keep going, it's not that hard to tell. If they are actually lying about the whole thing and saying they revoked consent when they actually didn't, having a cohesive story about being considerate and making sure they felt comfortable saying no will help your case.

That's also very rare, as much as people like to think feminism has left men hopelessly at the mercy of an army of women just waiting to frame them for rape. The vast majority of false rape claims aren't particularly credible and/or come from people with a history of compulsive lying, meaning they almost invariably don't actually result in a conviction. As long as you put some genuine effort into making sure you're respecting the need for consent, you're not likely to run into any problems.

Except it's literally a he-said-she-said case.

If you roll out a scenario where you were the perfect gentleman when the court is already against you (being accused of rape), it will look more implausible and turn the court more against you.

Anything less than video evidence or witnesses and it becomes a game of Charisma.

The vast majority of false rape claims are discovered in court, you have no idea how many were pushed through due to a lack of evidence and a public vehemence to sexual abuse of women.

You guys are really good at framing this in terms of "b-b-b-but what if I end up being a statistical anomaly at .02%?" rather than "how do I avoid hurting sexual partners or vice versa at 20%?" which is a loud and clear message to me that you shouldn't be having sex, btw.
