I mean, I'm white and live in CA, so it's not my issue. But imagine being born a minority in Alabama, Georgia, West VA, etc, your dating pool is suddenly TINY.

People can bring up issues that don't affect them. I'm an average looking dude and I'm 6'0, so neither worry applies to me, but that doesn't mean I don't see other dudes suffer.

As society is moving more and more towards online social interaction its slowly becoming less acceptable to approach women in real life. Online dating is a safer platform to approach or be approached.

It's more an issue of male labor force participation dropping female labor force participation rising than anything to do with social sanctions regarding hitting on women. People who work and people who don't work don't hang out together or go to the same places, and there are already more women than men.

Probably women are just going to need to suck it up and start taking initiative in the dating game, though this would also necessitate men changing their attitudes. about gender relations as well and I don't see either happening

As a minority who lives in the south...

It's not about dating racists, obviously you don't want to do that. It's just that your dating pool is so much stronger. Even discounting the outright racists, I've seen multiple times "Sorry no black guys. My family just wouldn't understand" on profiles. Not literally, but the gist of it. Interracial dating still gets you stares at time.

Even if you get past all of that, the guy still has to do all the work because a lot of women in the south are "old fashioned" which means they will never ever initiate things and want to be wined and dined. Which is pretty frustrating if you're an introvert. Or aren't the most socially graceful.

What some people criticizing men for this phenomena don't quite understand is this scenario is a 2-way street, now more than ever...

What can modern men offer that interests women?
What can modern women offer that interests men?

The typical answer for the latter is "sex", but that's only one thing. And thanks to modern luxuries making sexual encounters as accessible and socially acceptable as ordering a delivery pizza, most men don't actually need to settle down for anything long term anymore to get sex or even companionship. Dating apps actually DISCOURAGE more men away from settling down and raising families. Why buy/sustain/defend the cow when they can regularly get the milk with less strings attached...? And they have the perfect ethical defense for those choices: women can and are encouraged to do it too.

The caveat is that exceptional men that fit the bill of what most women claim they want now have less incentive to chase and more to stay single in an age where it's not torture to be a bachelor. Thanks to modern luxuries that both men and women can exploit, it's quite the opposite...

Also some guys want to be chased rather than do the chasing. Some guys like women can have self esteem issues and a woman pursuing them makes them feel good as compared to chasing ome getting shot down and them feeling worse.
