In CS1 and 2, yeah. In CS3 all quest givers are marked on the minimap with the green quest exclamation mark so it's less "hidden" and more "wasn't directly assigned to you." You can also quick travel practically everywhere at all times so it's trivial to just pop-in and see if there's anyone there marked.

NPCs that give you books still aren't marked though so for those you'd still have to talk to everyone. (Or get them from the pawn shop later for a price)

Chapter 3 complete at 49.5 hours! Kinda surprised some people are taking 70 to get this far. I've done all the side quests, talked to all the characters, done a good amount of fishing, and done all the Vantage Masters stuff, plus I fight basically every battle that's in my way. Are people just doing a ton of grinding or something?

Anyway, mostly a pretty cool chapter! All the people appearing at the end was pretty cool, and the Juno fortress music is great. Some neat battles. However... this hits on something I've been feeling a bit since the beginning, but the good guys never really accomplish anything in this game, eh? They fight the enemies, kinda win, and then the enemies leave. All the defeats are part of Ouroboros's plans for their experiments. None of the villains have been stopped permanently. They haven't been able to arrest or convert any of them. Honestly, it's getting kinda lame fighting the same people over and over again, especially since we already fought them in CS2 (some of them, like Campanella/Sandlot/Steinritter we already fought in Azure too, so we've been fighting them over and over again without being able to stop them permanently. It kinda makes everything we're doing feel meaningless. Pretty much everything with Ouroboros would've gone exactly the same whether Rean and co. were there or not.

Aurelia joining in was great at least, and Jusis is still cool. I hope we'll actually accomplish something in chapter 4, but I'm skeptical.

Honestly, I liked a lot of the exploring Ordis doing quests stuff more than the epic battles. The quest with Ferris was more delightful than anything at Juno, and Musse's actions at the end of the chapter were awesome, if predictable. I do think the main plot is exciting and the stakes feel high, but it also feels artificial in a way that the non-Ouroboros stuff doesn't.

Also I pretty much agree with the stuff you put in spoilers which is a large part of why I don't quite rank CS3 as high as say SC and Ao. Stuff that happens in those games felt consequential to me in a way that this game doesn't quite match.

Not sure I agree with that, especially comparing with SC. (SC Spoilers + CS3 Chapters 1-3) SC Chapters 1-5 are literally the same "Ouroboros conducts experiments, the party rolls up but they've already gotten what they need - heck you don't even get as far as confronting them directly, you get tied up fighting monsters they pull in from the experiments. Chapter 7 you fight them while they babysit their experiment and they succeed again.

Hell, you don't really knock them off their script until Kevin intervenes to save Joshua in literally the final battle sequence and they still get the Aureole! With Weissmann coming to the conclusion that actually even this was foreseen by the Grandmaster it was just Weissmann who got screwed!

CS3's "progress" always struck me as Class VII learning more about what's really going on in Erebonia and they do make progress on that front little by little. In Chapter 1 they learn there's another faction in play seemingly on Ouroboros's level and their enemy at that. In Chapter 2 they learn that group is the Gnomes. Chapter 3 doesn't really get them information on that conflict but it demonstrates that, albeit with an assist from Aurelia, they've finally reached the point where they can involve themselves in the matter as an equal force instead of being dismissed as irrelevant. And all along the way there's the gathering info on Osborne and the political situation.

Yeah, I don't feel like they ever really thwart Ouroboros's plans in Sky except at the very end of SC, and even then, they still ended up getting the Aureole anyway. I imagine they'll get all the Sept-Terrions eventually, and that's where the series will climax, with you having to stop them once and for all despite them having all of them.

The heroes are always a step behind and always presented as weaker than the villains they're fighting.

I mean, lots of dramatic things happened in Infinity War. More than Endgame, honestly. I'm not done it yet, but I doubt CS3 will have anything as significant as the snap...

Anyway, I think what you said makes sense, XP. Maybe it just feels a bit more obvious to me here since the stakes feel higher?

What you said about SC is a little off though. The party's biggest victory is getting all those people to leave Ouroboros. It's not about stopping their plans.

I wasn't trying to make a 1 to 1 comparison! I was just saying that CS3 is mostly setting the stage for the finale, so you aren't going to see many plot resolutions here. It's clearly setting up the next one to do that the way Infinity Wars did.

On to some more serious analysis here... I'm still not entirely sure what Millium/Claire/Lechter's deal was with this. Those 3 were like... pretty clearly... on the side of Class VII here but fought us anyway. They reference a "truth" that had them sticking with Osborne for this but uhhh... the only thing off-hand I can think of was they were told it was Millium or Altina but that doesn't make sense for Millium to go for, nor does it explain moments like Lechter imploring them to save Altina after they lost. guess it could just be CS4 content but yeah.

don't wanna answer in full in fear of accidentally spoiling, and I don't have time right now to look at the entire speech, but I did check that part and maybe this'll help clear things up:

en: I hope you don't think ill of us. We Ironbloods simply cannot oppose His Excellency. Though this whole situation is unfair, now that we know a piece of the truth, we cannot go against it.
jp: Do not rebuke us so. His Excellency simply holds that great a presence in our hearts. Too great, perhaps... And as absurd as this enterprise may be, we have glimpsed enough of the truth to know that we cannot fully oppose its course.

So some differences there... Or maybe that still leaves you confused. I dunno.

Started Death Stranding tonight. Way too early to form any realo pinion here but Leon should be as pleased as I am that I can confirm this is pre-MGSV Kojima with regard to frequency and length of cutscenes. Im sure the game is heavy with them in the beginning regardless, but unless they just flat out vanish soon were looking at a far more regularly intrusive cutscene director.

And once again, Kojima is proving he is the only dude who can give Naughty Dog a run for their money on this stuff, too.

Eh, I'd say it leaves me in about the same place, though as always I appreciate the translation.

Basically the most straightforward reading of it is that there's more to the Great Twilight and/or Phantasmal Blaze than has been explained to us but that they heard that has them reluctantly going along regardless of how ridiculous it all seems. I do think that's at least true for Phantasmal Blaze because Campanella was almost guaranteed to be hamming it up and trolling a bit later when he states to Stahlritter/Xeno/Leo that the successful execution of the Phantasmal Blaze plan they've been working towards is the "end of the world." That doesn't square with what we know about Ouroboros. "end of the world" is kinda an endstate and we know Phantasmal Blaze is Part 2 of ?? of the Orpheus Final Plan. So they can't really call ending the world a success because they uh... kinda still have things to do. It makes sense for them to play along for a bit to fully restore the Sept-Terrion but not to go all the way if the world really would end. Specifically if they're after Sept-Terrion there are still 3 they haven't made a move on or mentioned. Not to mention Roselia seemed to imply that the Great Twilight and Phantasmal Blaze had completely different goals... though how she'd be in a position to know that idk.

There was the whole thing with the Ironblood's eyes right before the fight but I assumed that marking was related to that so-called four-way link they claimed to initiated but wasn't reflected in the actual battle. If the "Too great, perhaps..." is suggesting he has some means of control over them maybe that was it but =/

I feel like you've exaggerated some of the changes. Like you were saying before that Angelica's less flirty in Japanese, but all her voiced dialogue is exactly as flirty in Japanese as it is in English.

I have noticed some things being off though. Sometimes an English line just makes no sense, like it's written by someone who understands neither Japanese nor English. Not nearly as polished as the first two games.

Angelica is flirty; I didn't deny that. Like in my post I explicitly said that "yes she hits on everyone, but she's always done that." But if people are noting a change in her character, and I can find extreme examples that NISA made up out of whole cloth, and I didn't feel that her character had changed (and I haven't seen people who played the Japanese game who felt that way), then that supports my implied argument that NISA's changes hurt the text.

I dunno. Like I don't want to get into an active fight over the quality of the text, which I realize is kinda contradictory with my actions. But when someone says they're confused by something I wasn't confused by, or hated something that I didn't hate, and I can find reasons for that in the text, it's... frustrating, I guess? *shrug*

Hmm, that's fair. Most of the 'changes' with Angelica are filling in the blanks, though. Like, making what she says clear rather than just leaving a "..." at the end of the sentence, which is what I'd call good translation for Japanese stuff in general.

I've definitely noticed other stuff that's more problematic. It's kinda weird considering how great their DRv3 TL was (for the most part).

Speaking of a weird commonality between both of those games... Why do the English versions of the Trails games use "Aidios" instead of "the goddess"? Is there furigana for that says Aidios every time in Japanese? I should remember this since I played the Crossbell games in Japanese, but I guess I forgot that detail... This was initially done by XSeed, but NISA did it with DRv3 too, using "Atua" instead of "God"

Sometimes, not always. But other terms are treated the same way: is occasionally given the furigana for "orbment," but it's just as common to see it without, and in voiced lines it will often be pronounced , douryokuki. I'm generally okay with this for a monotheistic god, just because the word "God" by itself is very weighty in western/Christian culture; there's a strong argument for avoiding that.
