It's back again! The playthrough started around 1 hour ago, so I missed the beginning of it. But they picked Grookey as their starter.

Twitch Plays Pokemon has been known to get a full team of 6 fairly early on.

Pokemon Sword/Shield doesn't even support touchscreen controls, so it's back to the old way of navigating menus using just button inputs. Catching Pokemon is easier in these games due to a simple button shortcut.

Yeah Sword and Shield has no touch controls for no goddamn reason.

Pokemon was built for touch controls and made arguably the best use of the DS secondary screen of any game.

Then they took it all away because they suck.

Grookey got sent to the box when they caught a Chewtle with a full team. Guess Grookey is another victim of the general trend involving Grass starters. Chespin got boxed as well when they played Pokemon X for the first time.

Fire starters are known for getting released by TPP in past playthroughs. Grass starters simply get sent to the box. Water starters are the only ones that generally make it through the entire story without getting boxed or released.

Chat is known for hating fire starters. They did a Emerald Romhack run a few months ago that had an entire day dedicated to people trying to kill the fire starter. It was hysterical.

Lack of touch controls is bad for those playing on Switch Lite as they are still limited to using button inputs like the rest of us. Game Freak would have known about the upcoming release of Switch Lite well before the official reveal, which would have given them plenty of time to include touch controls before the game's release.

Nickit ends up being the first Pokemon that TPP has evolved during this run. It seems as though the window for stopping an evolution is extremely small now (far shorter window than past games).

Earlier, they had stopped Rookidee from evolving.

They lost to Nessa too. If they still had Grookey, it would have been easier for them to win. Nessa was finally beaten on their second attempt.

The chat's reaction to Nessa wasn't as crazy as I thought it would be. In the past, there would be comments like "Let's milk Misty" (or another character in Misty's spot) and other sexually suggestive comments about any kind of waifu type character. For Nessa, there wasn't a huge number of those kind of comments about Nessa (though they did exist). At least one person referred to Nessa as "Galarian Misty". If they were playing Shield instead, they could have battled Melony (who would have gotten tons of sexually suggestive comments in the chat).

Wooloo ended up evolving into Dubwool yesterday. TPP wanted to keep Wooloo from evolving since #KeepWoolooCute was a trending hashtag in the chat prior to its evolution.

They have 3 badges now, but the real challenge is progressing through the Wild Area to reach Hammerlocke. Encountering a very strong Pokemon could wipe out their entire team and cause a setback for them.

So apparently TPP has a Hattrem in the party. I was a bit disappointed when they didn't catch Hatenna earlier in the game, but I guess they got their Hattrem from Glimwood Tangle at some point during all of the losses to Bea.

We'll see if they can manage to evolve Hattrem into Hatterene without boxing or releasing it.

I just hope it doesn't get boxed or released. At least they're out of Poke Balls, so the risk of getting boxed for another Pokemon is greatly reduced for now. Even then, it's in the 3rd slot of the party, which makes it much harder to be selected to get sent to a box when a new Pokemon is caught and added to the party.

Golurk completed a full sweep of Chairman Rose's entire team in a battle where he had 5 Pokemon. TPP didn't lose a single Pokemon in that battle (they started out with Golurk). Rose's first 3 Pokemon were KOed without Golurk taking any damage. TPP also didn't use their Dynamax in the battle.

The Eternatus battle is about to start right now.

They completed the Eternatus raid battle on their first attempt.

As for the battle against Leon later on (for the champion title), I didn't keep track how many attempts it took to beat it, but it was definitely more than 3. The final Hall of Fame team that beat Leon - Golurk, Eternatus, Hatterene, Flapple, Mew, and Obstagoon

Since then, they've been doing some post game stuff. I saw them doing the Battle Tower, along with some online battles against other people. Online trades also happened as well. Apparently, Grookey got traded away for a Rookidee LOL.

The playthrough of this game will end in 2 days from now.

Not surprised Leon took several tries. Hes the one fight thats genuinely challenging, but he really makes up for lost time. Hardest Champion in ages IMO. I mean, I beat him in one try, and I reckon most long-time fans did/will, but I appreciated the bump.

Leon would have been tougher if it werent for exp share.

I think my poor Cinderace only saw combat a handful of times, I'm not sure how the exp curve works out but I felt like I had Obstagoon out like 80% of the game.

I forced myself to use all six as frequently as possible but even then my participation in online raids afforded me so many Exp Candies that... lol.

The Pokedex status is very out of date (they've caught 209 Pokemon as of right now). There's also no information regarding the number of attempts required to beat Leon.

Leon does have Aegislash on his team, which certainly doesn't help matters here. It was an Uber in Smogon's singles metagame back in Gen 6 and 7. Even with the nerf, Aegislash is still pretty dangerous. Nanis seemed to agree in this post he made:
