I'm all for it. Though when they do Rats in the Walls, maybe change the name of the cat....

What's wrong with the name Black Tom?

Making a CINEMATIC universe from creatures that are invisible or so impossible that if we saw them our brains would explode.
Yes this totally sounds like it will work well.

That's not the name in the story.

You might have a point if that was anything like Lovecraft's creatures.

Okay, but Cthulhu needs to be voiced by Josh Brolin.

I heard Color out of Space was pretty garbage and had little to do with the original story so... nah, I'll pass.

Isnt the point of Color Out of Space that the color they see is off any color spectrum humans have? How did they portray that in a movie?

I dont see the Lovecraft oeuvre working as a film franchise.

Horror anthology series on either HBO or Netflix would probably be best. <_<

Theres so much that needs to be changed to make it able to be stomached in a modern sense beyond that cat lol.

half the horror in a lot of Lovecraft stories are anyone that isnt specifically a white New England person being some sort of malformed evolutionary throwback with an animal nature

I don't know much about the proposed series, but I agree about Lovecraft's horror may not translate well to 2019. The idea of Eldritch horrors and unfathomable fears is so common in modern popular culture I don't know it would hold the same shock value?

It's getting pretty solid reviews so far, being produced by a company that has several solid horror movies. Can't attest to content, other than the people I've talked to that have seen it(including a showing at a Lovecraft film festival) have been pretty happy with it.

I mean, no, not really. It's more about the outside, strange, and unknown. It's absolutely racist, but it isn't as simple as "if you aren't one of us you're evil". Hell, he has several stories where the protagonists are generally considered to be the bad guys, or someone from the town/university/city is the source of evil, or the visitor is greeted and accepted only to be dragged into something. While Lovecraft was an awful person, his writing wasn't nearly so one note.

Why not? It's not going to work in the sense of recurring characters, but recurring monsters, themes, locations could absolutely be done, given that's how the stories do it.

No, it's still pretty relevant. We're still full of fear of people exploring sciences, of society causing its own destruction, of Pandora's boxes and the unknown. Hell, we've had multiple fantastic lovecraftian stories in modern movies, some of which have done very well(looking at you Annihilation). Lovecraft isn't just Cthulhu and the giant monsters. Hell, Color Out Of Space isn't even about that.

Have you even read the story? That's only a small detail, not the entire point at all.

It is, but there's a lot more to it than that, the movie can leave that unsaid and still get the story :)
