Their choice of regional birds is one of the worst things imo. Noctowl and Unfezant are by far the worst of them, while Starraptor and Talonflame are fantastic Pokemon, Pidgeot being cool as well.

I think my favorites are somewhat evenly split, so I guess that's nice considering less than half are in. I'd have to count.

I also noticed that as of the Galar dex, there are now no Pokemon that has been available in every single regional dex to date, as Zubat/Golbat, Psyduck/Golduck and Magnemite/Magneton have all been excluded.

Man, competitive Pokemon is gonna have a hell of a shake. It was heavily dominated by legendaries, mythicals, ultra beasts and mega evolutions, so there's so little left up there. From gen VII meta:

Ubers:
Aegislash

Overused:
Clefable
Excadrill
Ferrothorn
Hawlucha
Kommo-o
Pelipper
Rotom-Wash
Toxapex
Tyranitar

Aegislash is one of two Pokemon in Ubers that are none of the categories mentioned before, the other one being Blaziken, so that was bound to be short. No way Aegislash isn't banned another gen now that we have whatever the opposite of a power creep is. I guess the three legendaries will join in.

Overused has also been heavily dominated by the above categories, but there's good amount that could've been in that isn't too. Without Z-stones, Kommo-o will fall completely out of favor. Pelipper will be able to continue to do what it does, but for who? Mega Swampert, Kingdra and Ash Greninja are all gone, so something new perhaps. Maybe Qwilfish will be a prime rain check pick now, it had a niche before. Hawlucha will be nearly as dangerous without Tapu Koko to set up electric terrain.

I suppose we'll see many Pokemon in OU for the first time, along with perhaps some returners from the first gens. Probably almost everything of UU and what it banned will be good picks in OU now. It's gonna be quite different.

The Dream Ball makes a return in this game. It's uncertain if this is the same Dream Ball that debuted in Gen 5 as the ball used to catch Pokemon in the Dream World. But in this game, the Dream Ball has a higher catch rate when used on a sleeping Pokemon.

A handful of images from the Battle Tower have just appeared. These seem to come from several preset teams that you can choose from.

I'm so glad we got the other shot of Falinks. I went from really not liking it to thinking it's a super fun design. No Retreat is a neat idea for a move. Hopefully it still works even if it's your last Pokemon.

Drum Beating is cool. Whoa, Cinderace gets a great new move. Inteleon's is clearly meant for doubles, but I wonder if for singles it still ignores the effects of abilities like Storm Drain or something. Fire and Water starters both have great sweeper stats.

Wasn't expecting those stats from Barraskewda. It just looked unremarkable, like destined to be Gen VIII's most forgotten Pokemon.

Copperajah seems to have some nice move diversity for a pure Steel.

I don't like Toxtricity's ability, hope it's not the only one easily available.

Eiscue is like a replenishable but less effective Mimikyu. Another defensive Ice type, lol.

Oh the official website updated today to go over various competitive QoL changes.

- Parent Pokemon of the same species can now pass egg moves to each other in the daycare. The example given was two Sylveons being placed in the daycare. One of them had the egg moves Wish, Charm, and Yawn, the other didn't. When withdrawn, both Sylveons had the three egg moves (note this only works if the Pokemon has empty moveslots).
- They mentioned the nature changing mints. Use a specific nature mint and the Pokemon will change to reflect the stat modifiers of that nature (though like with bottlecaps, the nature itself doesn't actually change and thus doesn't help you when breeding)
- You can now max EVs solely through vitamins, no more arbitrary limit of 10.
- There's various Exp candies gained from doing Max Raids (and possibly other ways). XL candies were shown giving 30k exp.
- You can finally nickname Pokemon received in trades, provided they don't already have a nickname. But once you give it a nickname, you can't change it again.

Also we know from the leaker that bottlecaps cost 25 BP and mints cost 50. And Pokemon still have to be level 100 to use bottlecaps. At least the Battle Tower offers rental teams now, so you can actually have access to competitive Pokemon while grinding for the items to make your own Pokemon competitive.

The site also detailed that there will indeed be online influence over Max Raid battles. From release through early January, while connected online, it'll be easier to find Gigantamax Butterfree, as well as G-Drednaw in Sword and G-Corviknight in Shield.

oh my goddd FINALLY, I no longer have to hate people who wondertrade without nicknaming (although, still, why would you wondertrade without nicknaming?)

This alone almost makes up for the fact that this game will be on par with the GBA games for pokemon selection.

Classic Game Freak. They add so many new features to try to make breeding obsolete, but they still haven't fixed Hyper Training. Sounds like your choices are to breed or to grind for XL candies, and breeding might be the faster option. That is unless Indeedee is Blissey on steroids.

Power Gem is one of them so that's cool.

Also between what is effectively Move Tutors and the fact Eternatus is already relevant to the story, I'm thinking there won't be another Galar game. Though I guess they could always still make a new legendary to be plot relevant in a theoretical third version/sequel. But it just seems like they tried to make Sword/Shield a complete Galar experience on the first try.

I don't see that happening any time soon since it takes a lot of strategy out of deciding what kind of coverage a Pokemon should have if you can just pick anything at any time.

If it's being able to select moves when going into battle, that's what'd cause problems.

Well, that's a nerf to Stealth Rock at least. I'd say the primary use is on those with the 4x Stealth Rock weakness, but it could be used to prevent damage from Spikes or prevent Toxic Spikes and Sticky Web from applying their effect.

HP: 89-104

Def: 93-109
SpA: 47-63
SpD: 77-93

I don't know why they'd make something with a 4x weakness to Fighting a physical wall, but these are the same people who think Ice types make good defensive Pokemon, so I'm not surprised.

It's got Guts so give it a Flame Orb and it'll be strong enough.

Based on regular Linoone, here's the most likely stat boosts for Obstagoon:

HP: +20
Atk: +20
Def: +40
SpA: +0
SpD: +20
Spe: +0

This would put Obstagoon at 520 BST (Linoone is 420 BST).

Oh giving Milcery one of the items it likes and playing with it in camp seemed to be all it needed to evolve (though maybe still level based).

Alcremie has a new move that boosts the target's Atk and Sp Atk by two stages.
