Just 2 quick questions before I jump out of here

How many new Pokemon (not including Galarian forms and Gyantamax or whatever it's called) were found?
How many Pokemon total are in the game?

I asked on Era earlier what the post-game is looking like and it seems a lot of people are kinda disappointed. No new routes/cities and so forth. I feel for them and I'd totally welcome all that of course but I mainly just tend to hope there's some sort of post-story "episode" and move on from the game not too long after that. It appears I'll be getting one (even XY got one though lol) so I'm personally adequately satisfied.

I haven't seen most of the new Pokemon and don't intend to but needless to say between occasionally checking both the Era thread and the Board 8 thread I've bumped into several. The fault is mine!

My favorite is gone (Volcarona) but my second favorite made it (Mareanie). Looks like Mareanie's gonna go extinct from lack of food source though lmao

a bunch of my favorites didnt make it, but I always use a team of new Pokmon my first time through anyway so I dont really mind all that much

plus I have an excuse to use my #1 boy Koffing thanks to Galarian Weezing so thats nice

although Im now realizing that would mean doubling up on poisons if I want to use Toxtricity also. hmm.

I tallied a list of which of my favorite Pokemon survived or were snapped, and including the new Pokemon I already like, it was surprisingly even. Considering less than half the Pokemon are in the game, I'm coming out of Dexit pretty well off. It probably helps that Gen V has the highest return count, and I don't care about most legendaries or a lot of the starters. Presumably more new Pokemon will make my favorites list too once I see them all animated and such.

Also the fish head fossils are growing on me, lol. Their status as painful miserable abominations is endearing. I'm probably not picking Sobble, so Water/Dragon fossil might be my Water Pokemon of choice. I dunno though, they seem like they're pretty late game based on their Dex placement. I'm just not super into any of the other new Water types and I can't imagine not using a Water Pokemon at all. If only Grapploct was Water/Fighting...

If Falinks is the last thing you saw, there's also a split evo for the apple dragon, an ice cube penguin, and Ghost/Ground Galarian Yamask with new evo.

This seems to be a comprehensive chart of all new Pokemon and form changes with names and types. The only thing that seems to be missing is a picture of scattered Falinks, but that's not really a new form. I also don't think we've seen all the Gigantamax forms yet.

It's weird. The leaker said they're just forms of the same Pokemon, but with different names. I guess it's like if the Meowstics had different names but still shared the same Pokedex number? I dunno exactly.

Well for starters, comparing it to all of Gen VII is faulty since it added more Pokemon after S/M. The same could happen with Gen VIII. Also we don't know if or how many new mythicals there will be. So without mythicals, S/S is at 81 new Pokemon while S/M was at 79. That's also not counting how S/M was utterly drowning in legendaries while S/S only has three so far, so it'll feel much larger while playing through the game.

Seems we wont see better images of the Gigantamax stuff unless another leaker has the guidebook because you only get the thing to make them Giant from raids battles which uh arent possible with like 0.000001% of people having the game at the moment

Cant speak for the others, but Id be buying it still even if all 800+ old Pokmon were cut. I literally dont care at all about catching or seeing the old Pokmon.

You don't need online or friends to do raids. The game will give you AI partners if you want to play alone.

I actually dig the penguins. I also like Flapple, but it's the only good one from that line IMO.

I wasn't feeling most of the officially-revealed Pokemon, but I like the leaked batch much more than I expected. I think it's one of the strongest gens design-wise honestly. I was going to skip SwSh, but since the Pokemon designs are strong, I'll play it if I find it for half-off or less (like I did with Let's Go).

I haven't played a Pokemon game in a while so losing a lot of old pokes doesn't bother me so much. I'm pretty interested in a console Pokemon game which character customization.

I think Santa's concerns are perfectly valid. For me, a full-MSRP purchase isn't happening, and it is disappointing that a series that was once so forward-thinking is now equivalent to chain-restaurant comfort food.

But when the price is right... that food is still comforting, right? I'm sure I'll still enjoy this once I find it on the cheap. I'm only human, man; as long as they don't fuck up the core gameplay and keep the new Pokemon designs appealing, this is a series that I can still enjoy to an extent. But I also have no problem being patient and passing on this at launch, and for a while after as needed.

yeah like I'm still kinda excited and will probably buy it used after a long time, but I can't imagine playing full price to enable the behavior that game freak has been showing

My two favorite Pokemon are Farfetch'd and Mew, so to see Mew back (is this to do with Let's Go?) and that DUX now has an evolution... not to mention I'm a big fan of the UK region... I may need to check this out.
