People kept saying "if you liked New Vegas you'll like this" but that was before it came out. Curious about informed opinions. I loved New Vegas btw

Lately games haven't been hooking me. Played 6 hours of RDR2 months ago and have no interest in picking it back up. Untitled Goose Game was the most fun I've had playing games since Persona 5 came out.

I liked New Vegas and Outer Worlds definitely has some of NV's bones, but I can't escape the feeling that this game is a paint-by-numbers RPG.

Don't get me wrong, it's fun. It's enjoyable. A bit on the easy side (on normal settings). Gorgeous visuals. Decent voicework and dialog. Menus can be a bit cumbersome. But the whole package just feels like familiar territory.

Not saying that's a bad thing, but if you're going into it expecting something fresh and innovative you may be disappointed.

This is a fair review.

Great game, but.....seriously......they messed up the difficulty.

Normal should be easy. I don't know how much harder the difficulty above normal is, but if enemies did
twice as much damage and had twice as much health, and so far all skill checks were 1.5x as hard.....that would have been just about right.

Don't play on normal.

I died once at the start as I walked into a ton of enemies before I had companions and didn't prepare etc.
I did the same fight over again and had no problem, just was not set up.

I have never used an adrenal (stim-pak) so far in the game.
Nor have I used any food to heal, and I have never slept.

All that though was before getting a decent sniper rifle and upgrading it (you can both modify and upgrade weapons).

Even without maxed out long guns, I can use a physical sniper rifle to take out robots in 2 hits, and most
living creatures in 1.

But...as you go, you get other things that make it even more rediculous. You can take 2 perks to
boost your quick time ability in the first 5 levels then another perk that gives you 25% of it back per kill.

That might not seem like insane over kill at first but.......

Initially with a sniper rifle you can sneak (from super long distance so no chance of getting spotted even with a low sneak), and shoot something in a weak spot (head usually). High long guns skill also gives you a high chance of getting a crit on top of the other damage multipliers.

Now the way the game works is if you kill someone, until another enemy finds the body or gets close enough to see it...they don't go on alert, so...you can just find the next enemy and take him out as well.

But eventually they will catch on (usually after the second kill).

Oh no...sniper rifle isn't gonna work well if enemies are charging you!!!!

Yeah, no, TTD (quick time) slows everything down to a crawl, giving you plenty of time to aim with
your sniper rifle and shoot enemies in the head, still taking them out in 1 shot.

Once you hit level 12 you can get a tier 2 ability that adds 25% of your TTD per enemy killled...which
is about how much it takes to shoot once with your sniper rifle. It takes nothing to go in or out of TTD
and it drops very slowly if you don't move while in it. So you can kill 1 or 2 from range with stealth, drop into TTD and kill a 3rd, drop out (now still at about full TTD cause you killed something) move if needed
to get an enemy in your sight (not behind objects), aim generally in their area, drop into TTD, and shoot em in the head easy for another 1 shot kill.

It even works at close range because then everything is already in your sights and you just turn from one to another and keep shooting em in the head (also your companions do insane damage as well).

I don't even know if the next higher difficulty level would actually end up making it much harder. Having to shoot twice...would use more ammo at least (of which there is an unlimited amount on normal without any perks, same for mag locks etc).

Meanwhile skills are crazy low for the most part, although I did finally run into a 75 persuade check (considering my persuade is 84...without switching eq for bonuses...I passed easily). I did actually
have to switch eq to boost lie once though since my Lie skill was only 40 and the req was 45 (just tossed
on a +5 dialog skills armor really quick).

Basically normal is fun, but a cake walk, way too much of everything, and no reason to use many of the
abilities.

Only complaint though, the game other then that is awesome.

TC expected some of the users here (and not specifically you) to have an opinion on the Outer Worlds, ok?

just beat it feels good, agree about the difficulty, but other than that I think this game did everything I wanted it to
maybe not the most innovative game no, but it gets everything that the new fallout games excelled at right and abandons some of the features holding them back, a sequel could be the future of this genre but for now this is even more than what I expected from new vegas in space

also does this game have a timer somewhere? Id like to know hpw long I took, id think around 30 hours but thats just a guess

It's a decent start, but it's pretty boring and I am not a fan of the characters. Parvati is alright, but the rest? Varying degrees of meh. There's no Mass Effect tier ones. I think everybody is blowing this game's goodness way outta proportion. It reminds me of when DA Inquisition came out and I was "a hater" for not loving it. Then Witcher 3 rolls into town and all of a sudden "Inquisition sucks" and then Witcher 3 got old and people cooled off and then it got a fair review. Like "the combat sucks, it's not perfect, but definitely awesome" vs. "best ever omg leet fuck holy moly GOAT"

Believe there is a timer on your saved game, you can actually see which one is the newest by that etc.
