What's the fastest way to level secondary classes? I didn't leave any quests undone and just grinding through enemies is pretty boring.

What's the fastest way to level secondary classes? I didn't leave any quests undone and just grinding through enemies is pretty boring.

The priority goes something like

1. Daily leveling and alliance roulettes
2. Spam highest available leveling dungeon if you have fast queues
3. Spam Palace of the Dead floors 50-60 if you're DPS queuing (switch to Heaven on High when at a high enough level)
4. Expansion beast tribe dailies during queue downtime

Oh and if you don't have Palace of the Dead, there should be a questgiver in New Gridania for it. It's a randomly-generated 4-player dungeon where you can enter at any level. You have separate levels and equipment while in it and it gives EXP on your actual job whenever you clear a set of floors.

Once you have a full playthrough of 100 floors for the quests, you can just keep resetting your run to 50 to grind levels.

I can probably name on one hand the number of times I bought equipment. The drops you get from level appropriate dungeons are usually your best bet

I have all but 2 weapons at the Pagos stage, plus my main weapon which is finished.

I am very much looking forward to getting into Pyros, as I have a feeling things will move much faster.

Yeah and also when you get to an expansion cap (50/60/70) you can buy gear with tomestones that will last you for the next ten levels, and then you do it again.

Unless you're a tank, then some expansion dungeons get a little dicey.

Stormblood in particular has wacky defense/magic defense scaling on gear starting around level 65 - if you're just dungeon spamming to level your tank you'll suddenly notice you're taking a ton more damage starting in the 65 dungeon. From 65-70 it's much more important than usual to keep your tank gear up to date than any other levelling stretch in the game.

I'm so sad I didn't get to do that boss fight on release. It looks so awesome and fun, and yet you can't take a scratch since its so undertuned/people have outgeared it so much

Unlocked the non-Ixali beast tribes (didnt train a crafting job). Is it worth grinding rep or are the rewards obsoleted by the expansions?

the rewards are basically cosmetic at this point, the most notable of which being a mount after I believe 30-ish days of questing. I'd put it off until you're a higher level, since the difficulty of them don't scale and they go from a huge nuisance to a joke

Since it isn't really explained anywhere in game here's how gearing works at old level caps. Whenever you do an instance at a level cap (50, 60, or 70) you'll get something called Allagan Tomestones of Poetics. You can check how many you have by opening the Currencies window (by default it's control+C) and click to the Battle tab. You can then use Poetics to buy Ironworks armor and accessories from Auriana in Mor Dhona. Weapons work a little differently - you buy an Encrypted Tomestone and 10 Rowena's Tokens (Poetics) from Auriana and then trade them to Aelina for your weapon.

Ironworks gear is noteworthy because it's the best stuff you can get before gaining access to Ishgard (without spending money on the market board, at least). If you Augment it (by buying Carbontwine and Carboncoat from Auriana, then taking those and the gear you want to improve to Drake in Hyrstmill in the North Shroud) it'll be item level 130, better than anything the MSQ will give you until roughly level 55.

Weapon is definitely the best, but I'd just get the gear as you accumulate tomestomes.

Yeah it's worth getting the gear. You will get TONS of tomestones going through old level cap dungeon. And the stuff you get from leveling g up to 60 is only marginally better than Ironworks. Especially if you augment it, it will last you those entire 10 levels.

Tl;dr for these responses:

Get the gear, but don't bother stopping what you're doing to grind the tomestones to get them now since the game will throw so many at you

The order of importance for gear is:

Weapon > Pants and Chest > Head, Gloves, Boots > Belt > Right side

Also, the stretch of MSQ you've just entered is probably the worst in the game, but it introduces plot hooks and stuff that are still getting used in Shadowbringers. Take your time, space it out with all the dungeons and trials that are opening up now. Worst case you'll end up with enough tomestones to enter Heavensward with a full set of Augmented Ironworks gear.
