Yuffie's prowess at repeatedly surviving the worst situations has led her to consistently respectable placements. Ever since her finals demolishment, she's seemingly gotten stuck in repeat, with all but two of her placements in the 75th-90th percentile range. She climbs 0.72% to 70.47%, good for 13th in the STATS and the top VII spot. Thanks to her strong consistency, she's even better off in the newSTATS, rising 1.10% to 77.29% and up one spot to 9th.

I've always been into the potential of Seymour and what his character has made me felt through his boss fights, but FFX screwed him over by giving him such a weak finale.

He drives so much of the plot and intrigue for the meat of the game, but once the final reveals happen he doesn't really fit into the story anymore and he's just unceremoniously finished. The best boss music in the series doesn't even get a place in a final boss rush.

I was thinking the same thing pj, good post.

Seymour Flux is among my top boss fights of all time for sure - the fact it's a pure surprise when he shows up, the stakes revealed beforehand, the music (even though the remaster ruins the best part of the song), the general difficulty of the fight too.

Then when you fight Omnis it's like, oh yeah, you're still around... so much had happened by then, it loses some of its lustre.

Final Fantasy honestly has a really poor villain track record.

The first 6 games all have sorta memorable villains that are still cool but then you have Seph and his knock offs in 8, 9, 10, and worst of all in this aspect 13 that are all pretty underwhelming.

Tactics has a great series of villains but no overarching antagonist outside of sort of delita.

i always find it funny when ed lays out his opinions that nobody else shares and presents them as accepted consensus

Gonna start saving the Final Fantasy villains as Sephiroth clones. Whenever I save Ultimecia (which is never) it'll be as "Witch Girl Sephiroth". Kuja can be "flamboyantly gay Sephiroth". Seymour is "Emo Veiny Sephiroth", and Sephiroth is now OG Sephiroth. I dunno what I'll do when Kadaj- you know, an actual Sephiroth clone- returns. Too many Sephiroths!

Fun fact. If I didn't get distracted yesterday, which caused my second save to be late, I would have had my third save ready right when the final stall happened and Yuffie would be safe right now. But what a run after flirting with danger for so many rounds.

Seymour has more in common with Sephiroth than Kuja for sure. Kuja is probably closest to Kefka in some ways (wild card!), though also completely different in motivation.

I mean yea, technically Yu Yevon would be the main villain of FFX on the grand scale of things. Seymour kind of co-opts Yu Yevon's whole thing for his own use. Jecht is Tidus' main villain and the most personal villain, if anything Seymour would be Yuna's main villain.

I'm sure plenty of people don't because he doesn't get the last battle and because Sin (sorta) does and is also an ever present threat so it's a bit stronger an argument against him as the main villain than say your Zeromuses and your Necrons of the world

I'm definitely in the camp that he is the main villain and don't approve Jecht as the main villain at all. Sin is more of an obstacle to overcome than a villain, Jecht is too indirect, and Yu Yevon is just your generic stupid FF bait and switch like the aforementioned characters.

I don't think it's implied in any way that Necron is responsible for any of the events of that game.

Zemus actually is the main villain of his game.

Neither one of them have any presence and Cloud of Darkness is hot and is in Dissidia

That's basically all there is to it. If Xande was a legit main villain and not merely the big deal boss fight that shows up first in the story there'd be more talk of him being the guy.

Oh I wasn't arguing Jecht was, sorry. In fact I'd say Yunalesca is more the overall villain than Seymour. But maybe I'm forgetting some parts of the story, I've only played it once.

I feel like its Sin just because thats the backbone of the plot and by proxy Jecht.

That said Seymour does some pretty big bad things and interacts with almost every party member (Lulus the one exception I think?) so I can see the argument for Sin or Seymour. I guess its like arguing between whether the big bad in Chrono Trigger is Lavos or Queen Zeal

It's the focus of the plot but not villainous inherently. It's just a force of nature that destroys. It's the obstacle of the plot, but not a villain if that makes sense. Like cheesy disaster movies generally have a scummy dude who is masterminding something that the protagonists are going against, but also a disaster like an avalanche or a tornado or whatever that is the main threat. Sin is the disaster not the scummy dude. Main obstacle, but not main villain.

Villains are not always the same as the obstacle. Magus or Queen Zeal have better arguments to be the main villains of the game.

Except you don't even need to beat Zeal to beat the game. And Magus is just not the main villain.

It's just a creature that eats planets it has no real malicious intent or scheming. It just sits there in AD1999 and waits for you to kill it.

You can't really call it a villain. It is the goal of the game but not a villain in any sense other than being the final boss.

It's like saying Nyx isn't the main villain of Persona 3 just because it's a disembodied thing when there would literally be nothing else.
