This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Captain Marvel is a tough one. The Carol Danvers version of the character is the most well-known incarnation due to the MCU, but Carol is best known for being Ms Marvel. Captain Marvel/Carol has been in most Marvel games for the past 5 or so years and had her own movie, but I just don't think Gfaqs cares that much for either. And she had little more than a glorified cameo appearance in Endgame, which is the reason I will say Mid Fodder for her.

Mr. Freeze I will say Fodder Line for since I think a lot of factors are in his favor to do decently with votes. I'm pretty sure Batman The Animated Series is popular on the site, and Freeze was a standout character from the show thanks to his revamped tragic backstory. He has the meme-tastic quotes from Batman & Robin courtesy of Ahnold, and a very memorable appearance in Batman Arkham City.

The Hulk I will say Low Midcarder. He's obviously a comic icon and is well-liked in the MCU. But the fact that they gave up on making solo movies for him will hurt a bit. And I think he will struggle to beat many of the more popular game characters due to his perceived lack of character depth and bare-bones design. Plus the live-action series is too old to give him a boost.

Captain Marvel: Agree with Mid Fodder. I think a wide swath of GameFAQs hasn't taken too kindly to her, not helped by a solo movie that most people don't like that much.

Mr. Freeze: I favor High Fodder for him, mainly because I can't see him being stronger than Catwoman. To be fair, though, we did place her at least one tier too low, and I do think he'll have some strength for the reasons half_silver mentioned.

The Hulk: Agree with Low Midcarder. Before the MCU, he would have been the strongest of the Marvel characters traditionally associated with the Avengers. He'll still have strength, but his MCU roles haven't been prominent enough to see the boon other characters have garnered from it.

Captain Marvel: High Fodder. I mean... she's hot. And I personally liked her movie. I can see why others thought it was "just another superhero movie" though. I feel that the MCU has made her well-known and recognizable enough for her to beat Low or Mid Fodder, and she's enjoyable enough of a character on her own too. I think you guys are underrating her, simply because of who she's capable of beating.

Mr. Freeze: Agree with High Fodder, and that Catwoman is Fodder Line (possibly even a Low Midcarder). I don't think I voted on her day, so perhaps she'd adjust up if I gave her a Fodder Line vote? I see Freeze being a tier below her no matter what because he's not as iconic as Joker or Catwoman, but he replaced Penguin as the #3 Batman antagonist ages ago.

Hulk: Yeah, Low Midcarder.

I might have voted LAW Fodder before MCU.

Mr. Freeze (DC Comics) - High fodder

3rd strongest Batman villain huh? I could see it but I don't think he'd be significantly ahead of the pack. I remember him from Batman the Animated Series but I don't feel overly inclined to vote for him in a character battle setting. Also people hate Batman & Robin.

The Hulk (Marvel) - Fodder-line

Before the MCU existed, I think The Hulk was kind of an empty icon. Most people would have recognized him and known he's really strong and angry but outside of comic fans not many would have cared due to lack of meaningful screentime in media they cared about. MCU has helped in that it's a given the gamefaqs demographic that don't read comics an actual connection to the character but I'm really skeptical he would actually beat Thor.
