We're seeing this effect in Venezuela right now. Purge anyone who knows how to actually do anything, and everything turns to shit rather quickly.
Same thing happened to Zimbabwe, and that wasn't even nominally communist.

And this right here is why communism is doomed to fail in its current form. It has a catastrophic internal error where people eventually take on, with religious fervor, a "class" mentality and always find ways to construe "the others" as part of the forbidden class(es).

And the only way to deal with forbidden class(es) or the sympathizers is violence or the threat of violence, like Marx proposed.
