Given the intense amount of FMVs toward the beginning of what would be Disc 3 on the PS1 version, I imagine I'm pretty far through the main story arc of this game. Up next is my visit to Kuja's hideout. I know about the continent to the west that's practically barren, the journey to Terra and the freaky plot twist about Zidane, etc.

Mythril Sword and Mythril Armor go into making Grand Armor. Tin Armor is better but you need to sacrifice the Hammer for it.

Kuja isn't exactly my favorite FF villain tbqh. A lot of his dialog makes him come off like a baddy from a Power Rangers series, oslt.

Game got stuck on the victory tune while transitioning out of battle.

Is this just a straight up port of the mobile version or something?

GOnna be real; I really didn't like 9. I still need to beat it, I got all the way to the final dungeon, but man, it just doesn't hook me like other FF games. The only characters I really liked were Vivi and Dagger. Everyone else is mediocre to straight up annoying IMO.

My path is even more off the norm. I was just a wee lad when FF6 blew my mind, playing it in the mid-1990s, and I'm old enough that even when I first played FF7 I had my issues with it because I was so enamored with FF6 that I refused to accept it for what it was worth. While the Internet hated FF8 when it came out, at the time I loved it for whatever reason and was highly defensive of it. FF9, I was always highly critical of while still thinking it was a 'good' game in many regards. A lot of my qualms were in my old review of it that was on this site, which I since had deleted.

This game makes you end up forgetting all about Hilda. And when you finally meet her, she's a lot more polite and reserved than the game makes her out to be.

Curious why Kuja was more or less 'nice' to her. Relatively speaking.

FF9 OST might be the most I've spent on an album (digital only version, too). I'd do it again.

The overworld music restarting after every battle is kind of a bit much, in this version.

It's kind of strange to me that he's just laying down, acting injured. No healing happened, and Zidane more or less told him to get up. Did he fall from a height and was aching and was too depressed to get up?

I'm really not thrilled with the decision to split into 4 groups. There are multiple issues with it. I'm guessing the biggest reason for it was to preserve disc space.

trying to remember if, after you go the Shimmering Island, the game allows you to go back to various places. iirc the game is on lock down after you come back from Terra, outside of a few things

It's definitely a bit easier to finish the chocobo stuff before moving on.

it's fun how much easier it is to do the chocograph stuff if you use the maps to your advantage in response to the clues
