She's the one that fed her autistic (literally, mods) daughter so much propaganda that she literally stopped eating?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greta_Thunberg#Life
Thunberg says she first heard about climate change in 2011, when she was 8 years old, and could not understand why so little was being done about it.[14] Three years later she became depressed, lethargic, and stopped talking as well as eating, and eventually was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome,[15]obsessivecompulsive disorder (OCD),[15] and selective mutism.

They were collapsed into the same thing a few years back.
https://www.autismspeaks.org/types-autism-what-asperger-syndrome
Asperger syndrome, or Aspergers, is a previously used diagnosis on the autism spectrum. In 2013, it became part of one umbrella diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM-5).

asperger's doesn't affect your intelligence the way higher end autism does though. so pointing out that she's "autistic" as having something to do with her being more susceptible to "propaganda" than someone without her condition is not only irrelevant, but seemingly disingenuous

She was 8, she was exposed to climate change science, and whatever happened it led to her stopping eating. I consider that, if not a factor of her conditions, a failure on her parents part to reassure a small child that they weren't literally going to die from the end of the world. If you think the autism had nothing to do with it, then fine. Her parents still failed to protect her.

EDIT: and to clarify, I use the term propaganda (even though I believe and support the climate change movement) because the actual hard science wouldn't send an 8 year old into a depressive spiral, so I'm taking what I think is a reasonable leap that what led her down that path was the "if we don't act NOW we're doomed" headlines.

I think it's happening, it is absolutely impacted by man, and most of the proposals that have revolved around changes to individual habits like straws and plastic bags are a deflection from the reality that manufacturing is at the center of it.

I also happen to think that the media has been sensationalising it for cheap clicks, and that throwing an autistic girl out in front of the world media to the point where she's skipping school is less about seriously addressing climate change and more about creating heroes and villains.

I'm sorry, you just won't sway me with emotional pleas without hard evidence.

Climate change is real, we definitely have a carbon footprint impact on it. I just don't think we are the only reason why.

And the ones championing her are usually celebrities whose carbon footprint in one week is equivalent to what I add in year are the real hypocrites.

They should eliminate their yachts and private jets before telling regular people what to do.

Asperger's is a type of autism -- in fact, the term "Asperger's" has fallen out of favour, and now the term is "high-functioning autism."

Then interpret what I've said less from the perspective of concerns about a child and more from the jaded cynicism of somebody that sees the media taking advantage of a scared child to drum up more profits.

I swear, even when I agree with the core problem being addressed, it's like if I don't stand up and applaud every single aspect of it people just immediately assume it must be trolling.

Imagine concern trolling about the emotional aspect of the situation. OBVIOUSLY people with a vested interest in the future of the species can get emotional given the weight of the available evidence. The urgency is real. Sometimes you need someone who is emotional to relay the sense of urgency to politicians who are otherwise stagnant and asleep behind the wheel.

I'm like 95% sure that anyone who calls out her health or her emotions is just concern trolling and doesn't legitimately believe we have a duty to respond to climate change with swiftness and urgency.

This includes individual changes, be it from being more conscious consumers to knowing that the situation is urgent enough to warrant electing better leaders.

The media is "taking advantage" of her by giving her the opportunity to speak and bring more attention to the issue? Come on now.

Greta Thunberg probably singlehandedly moved tens of millions of more people to be more committed to acting against climate change. Be it in the form of donations to organizations that plant trees, commitment to voting, lobbying, changing habits, etc.

Why are you zeroing in on whether or not some media makes some ad revenue because of their coverage of her?

mostly because we exist in an environment where many who are denying it are echoing your criticisms and using them as a way to dismiss the issue entirely

is it weird that a little girl is lecturing countries that are not cutting their emissions on them not cutting their emissions? yes

is it weirder that countries are not cutting their emissions in the face of mountains of evidence that if they don't they will create water shortages? yes

but when you criticize one and not the other you align yourself with those who deny that it's happening, and they deny it because they're paid to by companies who would lose profit if we cut emissions

If America mobilizes a war-time effort to make the entire grid smart and renewable, same with transportation and industry in general, what makes you think people won't be conscious about China's pollution and enact market pressure on them to make their shit green and sustainable?

China's pollution has been well documented for decades. I remember reading textbooks over 20 years ago with pictures of China's smog. They don't care because their GDP and economy trumps the environment.
