It's no secret that I don't like the Oracle games. They're just very tedious and just not very fun to explore and navigate around the worlds. I've never completed either of them because of how just unfun they are. So about a year ago I started Ages and got further than I ever had before, to level 6. But then gave up again. So then the Link's Awakening remake came out, and while that game is built in the same engine(well the original at least), it's legitimately an amazing game, and I've completed the original multiple times. So after beating the remake I was like "I'll try the Oracles again since I'm itching for more 2D Zelda" So over the course of the last couple nights I did level 6, got to level 7, then beat level 7. I will say that I do enjoy the dungeons in this game, they're generally well built, with clever puzzles. Level 7 was like the water temple in OoT but in 2D, and it surprisingly worked really well once I puzzled it out. But all the questing to get from dungeon to dungeon I could do without. It's just TOO much padding. But, I am gonna try to complete this game, then do Seasons. I hear Seasons is more action oriented, so maybe the questing between dungeons won't just completely bring the flow of the game to a halt every half hour. But I am not going to do the third playthrough, no thanks. I already know the endgame twist, and it's not even remotely interesting enough to warrant playing through this game again.

So I guess my hot take here having only played about 3/4 of 1 game out of 2 games is, instead of making 2 mediocre Zelda games, Capcom should have instead just made 1 great Zelda game. Oh wait, they did that a few years later with Minish Cap. So if you're itching for some retro handheld Zelda action, play Link's Awakening or Minish Cap.

Just did Level 8. Hey, there was almost no padding between 7 and 8, and 8 was a really interesting dungeon! Why the hell can't the rest of the game be like that? :P Like, it's not all bad, it's just the usually excessive padding just kills this game for me.

I prefer seasons over ages as I just liked the premise better. Didnt care for the ring/seed mini games.

Same. I was a weird kid and almost always had it winter unless I had to have it something else.

I must have played the Oracle games a dozen times each

Great world and dungeon design, and really well-paced

I love Link's Awakening, but it's way too short. I beat the Switch version (both difficulties) in like 3 days tops

I beat Ages, started Seasons, did the first dungeon. I like that the first dungeon is like a throw back to the first dungeon in Zelda 1, but with like more to it, that's pretty cool!

Fun Fact: the Oracle games were originally intended to be GBC remakes of the first couple games, before becoming their own thing

Seasons in particular has a ton of LoZ references, from dungeon and overworld layout to the fact that like 6 of the 8 bosses are from the original game (Aquamentus, Dodongo, Gohma, Digdogger, Manhandla, Gleeok)

There's even a ring that turns you into LoZ Link

Been through levels 3 and 4 now. Okay I'm enjoying this one quite a bit more. It's admittedly much easier than Ages(not that Ages is particularly difficult, it's just a bit more difficult than most other Zeldas). It's just Ages was more tedious and slow, and this one moves at a much more brisk pace, so it just feels better to play imo.

Going through the overworld in Seasons is much better than going through the overworld in ages, imo. One reason why I think OoS > OoA.
Still prefer Link's Awakening over both though. I also collected all the rings for both games. Never again.

Not crazy about Minish Cap, tbh.

Just did some secrets stuff between the two games. All of them worked except the Tingle secret. I doubled checked and triple checked and even talked to him again. And it just didn't work. So idk. But, got the Master Sword and Big Goron's Sword!

Oh for some reason I was under the impression that after you beat the second game then you play through the first game again and fight Ganon But apparently that's not true at all cus I just beat Seasons and it was like Surprise Ganon was the true villain all along now go kill him! So I finally beat the Oracles games.

Yeah these games are pretty overrated imo. I like some of the dungeons and some of the ideas and mechanics in these games, but there's just a lot of tedium here and it just brings the whole experience down. But I'm glad I finally played through these games.

What a silly hill to die on.

Notice how the whole big/small mechanic has all but faded into obscurity?

Yeah, there's a reason for that.

Is Ant Man the main protagonist in a nearly 20 game franchise split across 3 different timelines that I'm not aware of?
