It actually has more more interested in watching it that it's a one off original telling of a well established character. I'll be watching it Friday. I love anything Batman though. Joaquin Phoenix and De Niro are great too.

Its just a stand alone story, its not meant to be any specific Joker from any universe weve seen before.

Also if youre familiar with any comics at all, you know there a hundred different origin stories and a hundred different versions of every hero and villain

The Joker already had backstories. They usually involve him falling into a vat of acid and giving up on morality. Then he tries to convince people that morality is a joke.

It's a non DC comics movie using the DC comics and Joker brand to sell. It has zero to do with the source material. The director went out of his way to say he's not using any aspects of any comics as a reference or source.

This is a movie that could have been made by anyone and at any time but is using its brand like a parasite to make money. It'd be like me making a movie about mercenaries hired to take down drug cartels in southern Columbia and I call it "Gears of War."

Yeah id agree with this, but it looks really good, so I wanna see it, ok?

I honestly wouldn't be mad at that idea. Considering the joker in previous iterations was flighty about his own origins, it would be interesting to see him in a series of movies that tell his different 'origin stories'.

From what we've seen in the trailers, this film looks like it's just a retelling of the version of his backstory we already got 30 years ago in the comics. So it's not even as if this is a stunningly innovative idea.

Basically, as much as The Killing Joke supposedly influenced Heath Ledger's Joker and The Dark Knight in general, it didn't really dip into the specifics of the comic, but this seems like it started from the same point and kept more of the original story.

Theyve done many origin stories for him over the years. Both in comics and tv/movie animation. I dont see how you can says its any more infallible than any other story told about him before.
