Yeah I guess as someone with a lot of experience and interest in TCG's this is exactly the type of thing I'll immediately start running with in a game. Also the system is similar enough in structure to some actual TCG's I've already played which made it relatively easy to pick up.

Well, the first two games have a different style card game that's a bit simpler and I didn't mind playing, although I didn't go out of my way to play it.

Yeah the game in Cold Steel 1/2 is more like a playing card game like Euchre or Uno or something. (Not that the rules are similar--just trying to illustrate the broad class of games I would categorize it under)

The Cold Steel 3 game is more like Magic the Gathering or something. There are way, way less cards (something like 40 in total with 20 card decks) and the rules and interactions aren't near as nuanced, but it's still more than enough to satisfy me.

Though for the record I was quite fond of Blade also. (The Cold Steel 1/2 card game)

Cold Steel series has definitely delivered on the card-based minigame front imo.

I was at that miqo'te camp just north of the Sagolii Desert last night in FFXIV. Main story brought me there. I was having a grand ol' time until quite suddenly 50+ sandworms assaulted the camp alongside their ton-of-HP leader.

Had a brief bit of time to play Cold Steel 3

They just casually drop that Millium and Altina are homunculi created by the Black Workshop, and somehow Osborne hijacked the Black Workshop from Ouroboros. This dude seriously doesn't mess around. I like Altina's superiority/inferiority complex when it comes to Millium. Feels like it's going to make for a good character arc for her.

And I was kinda hoping/expecting that the new program Munk mentioned would be Abend Time. Sounds like Vita is trying to troll everyone here, but to what ultimate purpose? I guess we'll find out soon enough!

Wasn't the last part of that already revealed in Cold Steel 2? I already knew it going into the game, though I've been spoiled on/spoiled myself on some things before starting so I don't know for sure if it was already revealed or not.

It might have been. They revealed so much at the end of Cold Steel 2, and then the game went on for 10 more hours, so I think I forgot a lot of the precise details.

Yeah, I think it being a PC exclusive killed his interest in it. I was willing to grit my teeth and bear it, but he can be oddly stubborn about things like this. I'm honestly amazed he was willing to play the first two in handheld form.

CS2 and 3 Spoilers: Osborne hijacking the Black Workshop is mention in the CS2 reveal party. When Osborne strolls out with Altina Vita remarks, "I can't believe you managed to take control of one of the Thirteen Factories."

The homunculi stuff isn't directly told to you, but you can piece together a good 95% of it in CS2. In terms of mandatory content, during the first credits roll after the Finale the photo montage theme is Class VII as kids and Millium's photo has her in a kind of tank. Additionally, in bonding events with Millium she is often off in a way that suggests she's not entirely human. I think the most notable one is where she reveals she's never cried before. I think she also makes reference to the idea that her "specs" suggest she won't get any taller... that might even be CS1 come to think of it.

I have also been playing CS3. I'm a bit further than Leon, I'm on day 1 of the field exercise but still early on.

Stuff up to where Leon's last update was:

lmao my reaction to Vita was pretty close to Rean's. When the Abend Time music kicked in I thought it was just gonna be a 'new' Abend Time but then Vita's voice comes in and I almost started laughing. credit to rean for doing what i immediately felt he should do and just dash to Radio Trista ASAP.

Stuff after that: I was surprised at the Juna/Claire connection. The heck was Claire doing teaching at the Crossbell Police School? There has to be more to that. Looking for Lloyd/KeA? Currently at Saint-Arkh but I haven't even fully explored the city yet.

CS3 Card Game is cool. I flailed around terribly in the tutorial but by the end of it I got a handle on it. Not sure if you'll care, Leon, but a bit after where you are I could play against Juna and beating her got a tiny boost to bond points. Don't know if I had to win or just play though. Maybe 1/4 of a star?

Yeah, I figured there would probably be some sort of bond point boost like with Blade in the first two games, but hopefully I can get by with minimal effort expended on that front.

FFXIV:

That fight against Titan is awesome. Everyone in my party was doing it for the first time, as luck would have it, and we had no idea what to expect. It came down to just me and the other DPS; the tank and healer both died. We were close close enough that I figured we might still have a chance. So I used my limit break to get Titans attention, turning myself into the tank. I fired off almost all his remaining health but it wasnt enough. He knocked me off the platform but before I fell all the way to my doom the other DPS recognized my strategy and dealt the final blow. We lived. XD

I was having some trouble early on also, but I think even by the end of chapter 1 I wasn't really having issues anymore.

I don't know what the trick is, but I will mention there's apparently a cooking-based infinite money trick you can do in chapter 1, though I don't know whether or not you need specific stores and if those stores are available at the field study itself.

Its pretty funny that the Company of Heroes tests your mettle during that questline by having you fight off stuff like a single adamantoise to prove your worthiness.

I killed the adamantoise all on my own in like ten seconds.

I don't know what the trick is, but I will mention there's apparently a cooking-based infinite money trick you can do in chapter 1, though I don't know whether or not you need specific stores and if those stores are available at the field study itself.

The very first recipe that you get - I forget what it's called - cook with Juna or Rean. All the ingredients can be bought at any standard ingredients shop (The Field Exercise Area has one, and I assume like any town would.)

Juna is the ideal candidate because apparently either result she cooks sells at a profit. Rean works too though, he usually cooks a profit making one but occasionally cooks one that breaks even with the ingredient cost so he makes a bit less profit on average.

Was surprised by her voice after hearing her Japanese voice during the Crossbell playthrough. When Class VII, Fie/Sara, and Duvalie/Shirley collide it's gonna be amazing.

Also sounds like Class VII almost found Emma's village completely by accident but they have DIO on their team and Rean found himself a victim of The World.

Yeah I am pretty tight on Mirage Quartz also, mostly because the only two slots available to Altina from the start of the game both are Mirage-only slots for some reason...

In other news one of the things I did last night when I was playing was take the time to look through the dorm rooms of every person at Thors. Not every room was a winner but there's some cool things to find. Some examples:

--Towa has a bookshelf with a stepladder right next to it because she's too small to reach the top shelf.

--Tita has a picture of Estelle/Joshua/Renne in her room, along with another one of Agate

--(Early chapter 2 spoilers) The new mechanic helping out Tita still has her flute in her room that she played in CS1/2

--Randy's room has many Playboy-esque magazines and posters...including one with a girl that looks suspiciously like Elie. I suspect that was not actually the intent of the developers but I find it hilarious nonetheless.
