I am watching some unboxing/review videos and its painful how many people use a kitchen knife or a pair of scissors to open a box.

My normal knife is a folder, but I've also got a fixed blade I'll carry in addition sometimes. I want to get an auto knife, since they're legal to carry in Texas now.

I carry a CRKT M16-10KZ. When I was in the army/worked in a factory I carried that and an actual Gerber.

I have enough knives to stockpile an army. My father actually used to sell them, and had stock left over when he died that I haven't gotten around to trying to sell/give away, so I've got boxes and boxes of stuff in storage. From tiny tactical knives to kitchen knife sets to straight-up katanas and fantasy broadswords.

I almost always have a tactical folder knife on my keychain because it's always super-useful for opening packages (and bags, and letters, and pretty much anything else that's sealed and can be cut open), sawing through ropes and ties, and for stabbing people on the off-chance that I'm ever attacked and need to defend myself.

This is what I've been carrying lately.
https://www.bladehq.com/item--CRKT-Elishewitz-Pharaoh--1455

I used to carry this until the pocket clip broke. I can't find a replacement clip that will work due to the non-standard design. I would very much like to get a replacement pocket clip for it.

There's also an OTF switchblade that I ocassinally carry. But it's old and the spring is getting worn. It doesn't always catch and lock when released.

I understand obsession/collecting of swords, but I dont understand non-kitchen knives.

I use keys to open boxes if I dont have a knife around. Pop a hole and pull up to open one side, then for the other you pull the leaf so the tape is taught and poke the tape with the keys.

I'm right, as expected.

I carry knives...so I don't end up being the guy that has to use a key to open a box like a savage, among other reasons.

Why would I trade one of man's oldest purpose built tools to use a kludge?

I am a network engineer and work in one of our datacenters. carrying a pocket knight to strip the various cables is a lot better than carrying around or hunting for the right stripper for the cable you are working with.

I just ordered a new OTF knife to replace the worn out one that I have. A Damascus Ghost tango. I should get it in a week or so. It will become the one I carry every day once I get it.

So you don't understand why people might want something that actually has utility, versus something which literally has zero purpose or functional value in the modern world?
