I got it for BL3 and I like how minimalist it is.

Ironically, the way people have been foaming at the mouth about their existence is everything I initially hated about Steam.

In that sense, I don't mind Epic and it would be nice if Steam didn't have a total monopoly on the PC market; if someone could force them to be competitive.

With that said, there's a lot of ways that Epic could compete outside of just aggressively picking up IPs. For starters, they can commit to a better QA process than Steam, which honestly is a pretty damn low bar.

Also, better tags. As much as I like the barebones launcher, it's not so great that their store is like this, as well. It doesn't feel very fair to consumers that we can't see reviews(of course, this is probably a damned-if-you-do situation for them). If they implemented tags for the catalogue, it'd be nice if I could search for Action games without pulling up a bunch of fucking RTS's because they got little tiny peoples fighting on the screen that you have no control of. Also being able to filter out options would be killer. What if I don't want to see all these shitty freemium MMO's? Or "story-driven, atmospheric" copy-paste horror games?

Honestly, Epic has all the opportunity in the world to actually be better than Steam, but I'm not sure if they'll capitalize on it.

I don't care how great it is, I don't like having to have multiple launchers for my games. Ideally I would love it if we didn't need a launcher at all. And just needed to click the icon in our computer files to load a game.

I disliked the library view. Only just got settings to do anything about it. Even just with free stuff (and I've missed several), the launcher displayed only a few at a time because the icons were too big. And if you prefer tiles, you still can't change their size.

Anyway, despite being someone that hates what Steam has become and wishing Epic could become actual competition so Valve would need to fix their shit, they haven't been doing it in a way that will convince the customers, sadly. Still far too many people that just mindlessly defend Valve as if they are paragons of all that is light and good, but buying out title to force exclusivity when they were already advertised on Steam won't change minds.

a shopping cart is unnecessary anyways, so there's no reason to cater to the 8 people who actually use them.

At least until they had their first major sale (without publishers' consent, I might add) and people started getting banned for buying 5+ games in quick succession because they couldn't do a bulk purchase.
