5 months ago I decided to do four things:
- Quit Reddit full stop
- Quit video games full stop
- Move over to GNU/Linux as my full time operating system.
- Discord

Today, I feel much happier, and I do not regret any of my decisions. Since then, I have been posting on many other smaller sites, and I am enjoying myself much more.
I am also more lonely, and bored. I go to bed, on average an hour earlier every night.

Recently, I have had an interesting change of heart. I feel like I've accomplished all of my goals in life (because I have), I also plan on buying the new Pokemon games, but greatly tone down the amount of video games I play to only a couple of titles a year, and no PC gaming anymore, because I think that it ultimately did more harm than good. I should have realized this back when I almost failed out of college due to League of Legends, nearly a decade ago.

I've also watched quite a bit of Anime recently, which has been very unlike me this decade. I quit anime around when I started PC gaming, in 2010.

I also feel like I have "wasted" the past 10 years of my life. I think that Gaming has a lot to do with this. Also, I am trying to post on sites/boards that are less focused on Politics, as politics seem to bring out the worst in people. When politics are brought up now I try and tell people that talking about politics is bad, and we shouldn't be bringing them in a conversation about things like video games.

Just my two cents, and good morning.

If you're more lonely and bored, sleeping more, and watching anime then you might have a depression problem.

You should focus on going outside. Most of the cures for loneliness can be found there.

Sleeping more is defined as sleeping 8 hours a night versus 7...

Not playing videogames, not having as much fun. Hmm, I wonder if there is a connection.

How about your other interests? Several of mine are intertwined with videogames. Tournament martial artist and swordswoman (hunter-games glorify swords, not realistic but some nice moves), student pilot (flying games are fun), sports car enthusiast (and driving versions of my real-life cars in Forza/GT etc.), golfer and golf instructor (golfing games are fun), electronic hobbyist (collecting/repairing videogame systems).

Other hobbies don't have much connection with videogames: reading, cooking, gardening, collecting movies, knitting, reloading ammunition, (target pistol and trick shooting isn't well-represented in videogames), knife-throwing (and spikes/shuriken), sewing, crafts, carpentry, and so on.

I built my first homemade electronic videogame for oscilloscope display as a teenager in 1961. I had built a hand-cranked 3-bit mechanical computer before that (programmed with cams for simple number games). My kids and grandkids have grown up with computer/videogames. my son is a pilot and engineer for a major aircraft manufacturer and has played flight sims since childhood. It's hard for me to imagine someone "giving up" videogames unless they were just a transient interest to begin with, or if they weren't integrated with real-world interests and activities.

I don't really find a problem with that.

Hmm...quitting an enjoyable hobby outright is a bit extreme imo, but if it was negatively affecting your life..may be for the best. Gotta have balance. That's for sure. Also, have you tried socializing more with your extra free time? Might help with the loneliness.

Careful with that. Online "wisdom" can make people morons. See "flat-earth", "anti-vax", "9/11 inside job", etc...

Video games stopped being fun to me a long time ago. Hopefully my new outlook on life (moderation) makes them enjoyable again.

That's right you did say you were cutting down to only a few titles a year. Well good luck man. Liking the positive changes!

This topic doesn't even make any sense, it's full of a bunch of weird conclusions and contradictions

I actually use FreeBSD because I prefer that from a philosophical stance and an ease of use stance versus GNU/Linux. I prefer the monolithic kernel and world over what Linux does with Distributions.
I did this because I have no need for Windows in my life anymore.

Oh okay, but you said GNU/Linux in the OP. You should get rid of BSD and try Slackware. You'd make a good slacker.
