Tales of Vesperia. The Xbox fanbase lied to me years ago when it was a 360 exclusive claiming it was the best thing ever.

Granted I've only played a few Tales of games but Vesperia was the worst. Karol is also the worst jrpg character ever created.

Mass Effect 2

Nothing against the game I just bought it near release, didn't feel like playing it immediately, and by the time I did it'd been so far from when I played ME1 I kinda wanted to play ME1 again to refresh myself, but at the same time I haven't really wanted to replay ME1

So basically wasted $50. It was that purchase that made me really dial back my game purchases and only get stuff I had immediate plans of playing.

And I'm sure it's a great game and I'll play it eventually and love it but by that time I could have got it for $5 ya know?

You really should finish out that trilogy man, it's one of the best there is.

I def enjoyed ME1 and won't mind replaying it when the time comes. Gameplay is good. And finishing up the ME trilogy is on the bucket list and will be done eventually but yeah I'm just saying it was a dumb release date buy all things considered. I've been pretty good about actually playing new game purchases in a timely manner since then!

Probably the rebooted Star Wars Battlefront that came out in like 2015 I think. Paid full price for it assuming it would be just like the first 2 games on PS2/Xbox. Played the beta and knew I wasn't going to like it. Probably put about 3 hrs total in the actual game and never put it in my PS4 again

Well I'd thoroughly regret buying a game if it sucked and I had a compulsion to play it 6 times, to be fair. Much moreso than a game that sucked that I played 0-5 times.

So now that we're past "recent" purchases

One of my biggest regrets is King of Fighters XII

KOFXI is legit one of the best KOFs ever

They fucking sold that game for 15-20 NEW at launch

It blew my mind.

It had fast paced tag team action, lots of stuff to learn, and lots of characters. and had a decent amount of offline content

so once they announced a new KOF with HD graphics, and these graphics were amazing, I was on board

no

oh god NO

it played like shit. It was obviously still in beta

they made super dumb design choices (Clark and Ralf were now steroid users and Joe was a scrawny bitch, just to name a few)

the game had NOTHING going for it. It didn't even have arcade endings. At least from what I can recall

and the online was AWFUL

the worst part? I bought it new at 60 at launch

so as a person who hates wasting money, I played it. I played the shit out of it. I couldn't accept they did this to me. It ruined me so hard that I didn't even get XIII, the game it was SUPPOSED to be

and I only played KOF XIV briefly. The only reason why THAT game isn't a regret either is because I sold it for about how much I got it for

I didn't even try that SNK heroine game, which I also hear is bad too. KOF might be done for me, and it started with XII

I guess 12 is a bad number for me, I hate FFXII lulz

but at least with Lunar Dragon Song, FFXII, and Phantasy Star 2, my most hated games, I got them at relatively cheap prices

I'm trying to think if I've ever played a game I disliked to completion more than once.

Probably the closest I've come is...Chrono Cross? But even that game I wouldn't say I dislike.

No, Super Mario Sunshine would come closer to the mark.

no, my biggest regrets all have to do with things that actually matter in the real world.

buying dark souls 3 at full price when it was released is just the most recent video game purchase that I've regretted. and the fact that I paid full price is a big part of that, since it's something I don't usually do.

Aecioo posted...

not really. I love from software. bloodborne is my favorite game. gaming has never been the same for me since I played demon's souls for the first time. I just thought dark souls 3 was disappointing, rushed, full of design flaws and I regret paying full price for it.

I don't think being disappointed with one game in a series is "crazy"

also the reason I've played it so much is just a mixture of... not really having that many similar games available to play... and making a few good attempts at giving the game a fair shake, but still being disappointed every time I come back to it.

Actually, now that I've thought about it, I might have a more recent answer: Street Fighter V.

I loved Street Fighter IV (and all its updated versions) to death and I'm a huge SF fan in general, so I was all in on this one. Yet I haven't touched it since they released the story mode DLC, which was about three months after release. It just wasn't able to hold my interest at all, and I honestly think it was the lack of worthwhile single player content. I don't play online a ton (Street Fighter IV was the big exception to this, but that just speaks to how good it was), so I wanted something substantial I could play on my own.

Have they added something like that in the last three years? Maybe. Will I ever boot up the game again and find out? Nope.

I'm with you, I felt betrayed

the online was AWFUL, there was no content. and one of few methods to getting fight money was that gauntlet mode, which was so unfair and frustrating.

I was legit having flashbacks of KoFXII

but eventually they DID add TONS of stuff to it with lots of ways to unlock things. but Day 1? Week 1? hell, MONTH 1?

It was no bueno

it was alot to ask someone to stick around that long for them to add stuff

the good side to that though is that it was all free

I struggle to think of many games I'd say I dislike that I've beaten even once, much less more than once. Usually if I dislike it I just tap out before it's done.

I guess uhh, Ocarina of Time? Got it as a gift close to release. Beat it once didn't like it, then beat it again later to confirm "yes this game is bad and the world is wrong"

Other than that I don't know. I've beaten Dragon Warrior a few times but I wouldn't say I dislike it-- I've always used that game as my definition of mediocre.

I'm generally pretty conservative with games I buy though that's why the most recent regretted game purchase is 10 years old.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. If I think a game is outright bad, I almost never bother to finish it. I wouldn't say I disliked CC or Sunshine. They have some good points about them that I can point to and say I enjoyed at the time, but I'm apathetic on them overall.

it's really just the final stretch of the game that is terrible. the rest is pretty mediocre, with the best sections being in the middle. keep in mind I've beaten bloodborne and dark souls 2 around twenty times each, probably even more.

at a certain point if I want to play something similar that isn't playing the same exact game again I need to either set up my PS3 (which is a pain) or go back to the endless cycle of 'well, let's give dark souls 3 another try and see how it goes.'

(I don't own Dark Souls Remastered, but I would probably buy Demon's Souls Remastered if they made one)

persona Q sucks. it contains none of the elements that make etrian odyssey good, and it fails to really "get" a lot of what draws people into the persona series.

really good answer.

Too many to remember. One standout was Watch Dogs. It felt like a chore. I didnt like the soundtrack, car chases were tedious (rubber band physics and a slow recharge on your powers), and boring missions until nearly the end.

Im sure theres been worse, I bought a lot of stuff because I was hardcore, but that one stood out.

I think my biggest gaming regret of all time was getting Metroid: Other M on launch day. What a horrid game.

More recently? Uh, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, probably (not the one that just came out). It brought shitty NES game design along with its aesthetics. I found it too annoying to finish, even though it was a relatively cheap buy.
